What mufflers for DIY exhaust?

What mufflers for DIY exhaust? Just recently picked up a 2006 V only mod right now is a Volant intake. I just picked up Magnaflow stainless X-Pipe and a couple feet of 2.5" stainless tubing. At first I had planned to pick up a Magnaflow catback. But everyone seems to think it is to quiet and it isnt cheap. So I figure I can put the X-Pipe in now for cheap. If I still want it louder, which I assume I will. I can do some mufflers and different tips, cant stand the stock ones. Just wondering what mufflers everyone is running on there setups. I am not really a fan of the sound of chambered mufflers. I have a Flowmaster 44 on a TB SS and it didnt sound great and droned way to much. Below are the mufflers I was thinking about.
I have seen a few people running Mag 14416. They are a great price and fit mint. But I am wondering how loud they are and if they drone real bad. Everyone seems to say they are a good upgrade over the mufflers that come on the Mag catback.
Is the #14326 Mag the muffler that comes on the Mag catback?

Does anyone know what tip comes on the mag catback. I found a few tips that looked like them but they were 2.25" inlet/4" outlet. Is mag catback 2.25" out of the muffler.

I cant answer all of your questions but no, i believe the mag catback is at least 2.5" if not 3" all the way. I know its not 2.25" like stock.
The mag is nice. If you could find one used, it would be worth picking up just for the stainless piping, X and tips alone IMO. You can put any mufflers in it you want later.
The stock mag mufflers are a little on the quiet side. Im contemplating either having some louder muffs welded in or just running cutouts for the best of both worlds. Last thing i want is something thats going to drone my ears off when cruising on the highway. That kills a good sounding exhaust IMO!
Im actually pretty disappointed the super 44's drone really bad! I was listening to clips on youtube and though i like the B&B, Corsa, Etc, i thought one of the meanest sounding setups was kooks, no cats and mag catback with super 44's welded in place. I just posted a thread with the link. Check it out.

Thanks for the info the Magnaflow catback is 2.5" all the way to the muffler I . I am just wondering sense I couldnt find the Magnaflow tips for sale with a 2.5" inlet maybe the magnaflow catback goes down to 2.25" out of the muffler.
At first I thought about getting a used Magnaflow setup but they seem to sell for $550-600 used shipped. I got the X-pipe and tubing for $75. I can get the mufflers for $140 and tips for $90. So that only $305 and I can weld it up myself. Instead of paying $550 for the magnaflow setup and spending $140 down the road to switch the muffs.
As for the Supper 44 I was amazed it droned so bad. I had a 40 series on my Rengency and loved it. But the 44 on my TB SS was awful on the highway and at 40-45mph it would drive you crazy. I added a glass plack res. and it helped a little. But at WOT it did sound good. But I still was let down.

Hmm... i dont think so. Pretty sure mine are 2.5" coming out of the muff and to 4". Maybe they just dont sell them seperately in 2.5"-4". Might only offer them in 2.25" considering they are infact the right size for the most stock systems. 2.5" inlet might be exclusive to the catbacks.
And yeah, they are def still pretty pricey. Saw a post recently where someone was selling the mag catback brand new for just over $600. Id have to search around to find it but ebay, they are $840+ shipping. Its def cheaper to fab your own system. If my car didnt come with the Mag, that prob the route i would have gone.
And man, that sucks! It seems like Flows drone bad on everything for some reason. But you are right... they do sound mean as hell at WOT! Just cant handle that drone for trips on the highway...

B&B always offers a 3" when noone else does. When i had B&B on my vette, it was the only company offering a 3" system.
For the V's though, in order to really need a full 3" exhaust, you gotta be making BIG BIG power.... otherwise, the 2.5" is plenty especially once you free it up with LT's and either high flow cats or test pipes...

If factory is 2.5" stainless and all the aftermarket catbacks are 2.5" stainless, whats the point over spending $1000+ on a catback when you can get the X, mufflers and tips of choice for $300? Doesnt make much sense...

Just how I felt, stock setup is 2.5" already and stainless. Plus the factory bends are smooth and you cant beat oem fitmet. I am pretty set on the 14416 Magnaflow mufflers. I just have to find some tips.

This is the part number that comes with their cat-back package. unfortunately when i called magnaflow their tech guy said the 4" tips come only with the cat-back package with the tips already welded to the mufflers. they dont sell the tips individually and they wont sell the mufflers with the tips already welded on..............so i had to settle for the 3.5" dual wall s/s tip.
