Default CTS-V2 Tire life

I know there are a few out there that have v2's on here.

What kind of tire life is everyone getting. I Know there are tons of varialbes, but I'm going to look at this V2 tonight and he said he babies it, but only got just over 5k on the tires. I think there is some BS in the babies part IMO.

Thanks in advance.

According to all the V2 owners at our DFW meets, the tires are gone very quickly.

I'd ask the guys at http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...es-forum-2009/

My PS2's are just about shot and I got 17,xxx miles and about 25-30 track passes (each with a burnout) on them.

Not bad at all, I never got over 15K on my PS2s on my V1, and they have never seen a track day or drag strip.

Think I'm going to replace them with some Nitto Invo's. We'll see how those last.

Invos are a good choice, many C6Z owners run them with good feedback. I am on second set on my C6 with no issues and no complaints.
Good luck with 'em.

I've got just over 10K on my V2 and have about 50% left, I'd have to guess that they will make close to 20K under normal driving - way better than the F1s on my old V1 which only made it to 12K.

I have followed the threads over on the "other forum" on tread life pretty closely and I think that it is hard to pick an average, but the record for longest lasting original PS2's is about 26K with maybe a couple of K left on them. there was a thread just a while back. Naturally that was pretty much all highway / freeway mileage. At 5K mileage on the factory fronts and / or rears that has to be at least close to some type of record. I have seen a few posts where owners are claiming that little mileage on the rears, but very few owners / posts. That car has been seriously flogged and / or tracked, IMHO.

Made a mistake in my earlier post when I said 17,xxx miles, I actually have almost 20,000. They'll be replaced this week or next, but 20,000 and 28 track passes wasn't too bad.

Thanks for the input on the Invos.

Angry CTS-V Short tire life

I have a 2005 CTS-v. I'm on my third set of tires and only get about 14,000 miles before the inside rims on the front tires fray away. My wife typically drives the car, she's not a hot rodder. I thought there was something wrong with the steering geometry, but the dealer insists this is normal. I am not a happy camper. It would be a different matter if we were pushing the envelope. I think there is a fundamental flaw in the set up on these cars set up. Also, I was not happy to find out the turn signal bulb cannot be replaced by the owner and is a $115.00 repair. This could be my last Cadillac.

What tires are you using? The Eagle F1's have notoriously short life on the V1.

I think the "fundamental" flaw is it is a heavy car on a narrow tire. So it is going to wear more than a wider tire would doing the same thing. It's like having a larger brake pad, the grip isn't different, but the wear rate sure is.

What do you mean the turn signal can't be replaced by the owner? Sure it can. I've modded my whole turn signal/fog housing with hids and they are very accessible. If you are talking about the parking light in the corner of the headlight, that is also changeable but is slightly more difficult.

As for tires, the suspension on the V is tuned to be more aggressive than an average car. You will see accelerated wear on a car with a more aggressive alignment.

If you don't like the way the factory alignment is set, then change it to a less aggressive setup. Any alignment shop should be able to help. What tires are you running?

Your dealer is filling you fill of crap, the bulb is not difficult to replace and tons of guys do it.

Edit: Good point aurora40, the stock tires suck and wear quickly. Replacing my rears with 275s has seemed to help.

The V does call for quite a bit of negative camber on all the wheels, so they'll naturally wear more on the inside. If your now worried too much about taking the car to it's limits around turns, then ask the people that alight it to put the wheels a bit more positive. They are fully adjustable in the front and rear, so it shouldn't be a problem with the right tools.
