Default No Oil Pressure, Shut off Engine!

Hey guys,

Starting Saturday, I'm getting a "No Oil Pressure, Shut off Engine" message on the DIC when I first start the car. (cold)

The dash pulls up the oil pressure gauge & the car starts chiming, first slowly, then faster. Oil pressure shows zero, then after a couple seconds starts climbing & everything looks fine.

I hadn't driven the car since Sunday & this morning it probably took over 5 seconds for the oil pressure to kick in & the DIC to clear. (I'm guessing it took longer to kick in since the car had been sitting longer?)

Once the pressure kicks in it climbs to 44 psi, then I'm seeing 50+ psi when driving, as high as 70 psi when still cold & then between 25 psi idling & 50 psi cruising.

I tried searching the forum, but didn't find anything related.

Anyone seen this before? Bad oil pressure sender? Or you think I really don't have any oil pressure at startup?

2005 CTS-V, stock, 50k. Any ideas?

Thanks.

If you had no oil pressure, you would hear it.

The engine would knock like crazy and sound horrid.

Sounds like your sensor is going/gone funky.

Default just an update

Just an update.

Blipping the throttle seems to cause the oil pressure to kick in sooner.

Not sure if this points more to the sensor or to a true lack of oil pressure.

The car is going to the dealer tomorrow, so we'll see what they find.

What's the viscosity of the oil in your car?

Default another update

I took the car into the dealer last week, they said the pressure was fine, that it was just the sender & they replaced the oil pressure sender.

But...it didn't fix the issue.

I changed the oil this weekend (first oil change since I've owned it) & filled it with Mobil 1 5w30.

That didn't fix it either.

The car will be going back to the dealer, so I'll post an update when the issue has been resolved.

FYI, I also changed the transmission fluid when I had it up on ramps. Very easy, & a very noticable shifting improvement. With only 50k on it, the old fluid was very dirty & it shifts into reverse way easier now, as well as into the other gears. I recommend doing this if it hasn't been done. I used these instructions http://www.cadillacfaq.com/faq/answe...nge/index.html
& they were spot on.

I'm about to hit 60k soon, I might do it just to do it as well.
