Default CTSV (pre purchase) questions

Hello CTSV crew, I still haven't made a purchase yet. I waited too long to pull the trigger on a nice 07, so I'm back to the drawing board looking for a V. I was going to go with a new camaro, but I'm thinking the V will better suit my needs, with just as much fun.

So my question is are there any things I should be aware of with an 05 aside from the Diff upgrade from GM?

Should I hold out for an 06, 07 or will an 05 be just as good?

I know the 04-05's have the ls6 and the 06-07 have the ls2, which I don't believe there is much difference between the 2.

Reason why I ask is there is a really low mileage 05 for what I believe to be a really good price $21k with 15kmiles on it.

So if anyone can chime in and offer their opinions let me know.

Thanks!

outside of the rear diff and the engine, there isnt much difference in the 2 cars.

the only thing i can think of is see if that 05 has the FG2 shocks option...not a huge deal.

I also found an 07 that has some mods done to it with 15k miles on it as well, but I think its priced a bit high in my opinion its at 32k. Mods that were done on this one are Long tubes, corsa exhaust, cold air intake, short throw shifter, so not too many for it to have a 32k price tag, so what are your opinions on this one? I was thinking about offering 29k for it, but then again I can get the low miles 05 and do these mods myself for much cheaper... decisions decisions...

I saw a few that had this option, is it a good upgrade to have?

FG2 is just shocks, priced new at about $1200 from dealer. Better, yes, but knowing the price, should help you decide.

29K is still too high for any V1 in my opinion.

05's also had a leaky radiator, but by now that probably has been replaced. get the VIN, and check the service history.

for my 07 with almost 32k on i paid 27532.26, with TTL it was 29,500 on the nose...for and 07 V, gettting up to 30000 for them is the normal. with higher miliage was going for less. when i was looking around, most of the 04-05 i saw were in the upper teens and low 20s. with 06 going mid to upper 20s, and the 07 upper 20s to mid 30 range. there was one an 07 CPO in DFW with 19k for 35,000 that was dropped to 32 and sold within days of that. the 07 with low miles will be higher because they will still have part of the factory warranty and there are more 07 CPOs out there. the CPO come with an addition 6 year 100,000 mile limited warranty. and 07 was the year that GM finally got most of the problems ironed out.

what you get will be dependent on what you want to spend.

Ya, high 20's is pretty common for the LS2 V's. They'd probably take 30 OTD for it.

I will sell you mine. I have an 06 bone stock FG2 car with 23,350 miles on it. It has a full certified preowned warranty good until august of next year. It is actually at the dealership right now getting a new set of motor mounts (had a clunk noise when shifting) and a new third gen rear end (original had a slight whine). The car is in great shape but has a few minor blemishes as you can see in my for sale ad. I will sell it for $24k.

If you're financing, most banks will consider an 05-older to be "used" and an '06-'07 new, as far as interest rates are concerned...About a 2-3% difference, fwiw...This is one of the main reasons I went with a 2007 vs. a 2005 and so happened upon mine...2006's were the hardest to fine, for some reason, although not like there were a whole lot of '07's...The other nice thing about an '07 is there is probably a little full warranty left on it (4 yr.-50k), and a lot of powertrain warranty left (5yr-100k).

There are some really subtle differences between the years (like the wheelcaps), beyond the obvious, but just find one that is in good shape and not abused and nobody's gonna really know the difference

EDIT - here are some of the differences

i have a 04 ls6 77k miles on it, purchased used in 2005
i thought os sellig many times over past years as I saw other cars
...nothing wrong with her...

such a great car i decided to keep
....$16k to $19k is giving away price IMO....
...considering replacement USED cars I was looking at @ $35k and above...

I'm planning to keep for a bunch more years...

Other thing to think about is that an 06/07 still has the chance of a warranty, most of the 04/05's should be close to reaching the end of that road, but it depends on what all you are looking for in it

I think everything would depend upon is the 15K mile car in the condition that you would expect a 15K mile car to be. Or is it better? or worse? garaged or non-garaged car? Original owners? Has been in snow or rain region/ country?
Any other extras, i.e., rims? Been tuned? Just some things to think about?
