Looking to get out of a Saleen and into a V
Hey there. Thought I'd say hi and let you know I'm considering picking up a CTS-V. First I'd have to sell my Saleen at the right price.
Would probably be looking at the pre-supercharged generation, as I can't really afford the newer faster ones. What years seem to be more popular? People talk about 06+ having a "truck engine", but also talk about pre 06's having diff issues.
Thats what I drive now. It is currently putting down ~458/462 at the wheels at 10 psi and in cooler weather (dyno was seeing 140 ambient air temps in the intake) would see closer to 490-500 whp. It makes 400ft.lbs at 2100rpm and 450 and 3000rpm. I really enjoy the car, but would love to have a 4door thats fun as well .
You're welcome to PM me for details about my car if interested but out of respect for you all and this forum I wont post the link.
Hopefully I can sell him soon at a good price and find myself a sweet V.
Toodles.

The whole truck thing is just messing with everyone. The 04-05 has the LS6 out of the Z06 and the 06-07 has the LS2 out of the new C5. As for the diff, yes the 06+ have a slightly stronger diff but still have nasty wheel hop and will break if you are not careful. The LS2 has a slightly smoother torque curve due to the slight parts difference, but you really won't notice a difference...I did not, both pulled like a raped ape!!!
Good luck with the search....that Saleen looks sexy!!

^^^haha...raped ape...i am stealing that one.
but Tri is right...most of the things you here about the car are right. Diff are still fairly weak in the 06-07, but most issue there will be helped by put a anti wheel hop kit on the car. i think the reason most will go 04-05 is that they are less exspenisive then the 06-07. i went 07 because it was the year where almost all bugs had been worked out, and i found a nice deal on mine. so it will all come down to how much you want to spend. if you want to stay under 20, you will be looking 04-05 mainly and some high mileage 06-07. the lower mileage 06-07s are generally going from mid 20s to low 30s.
as far as the truck motor thing...that just the LS6 guys being jealous that they only have 5.7L...

They call the LS2 Vs truck engines because they use they share an engine with the Trailblazer SS and the SSR. The thought process is that the LS6 is superior due to the fact that it was only used on the C5 Z06 and the 04-05 CTS-V.
I'd rather have the newer and larger LS2.
Also, there have been ZERO documented LS2 Vs that blow their rear end. It has only been the 04-05s that have that problem. Is the rear end perfect...no way, but the overall design is much better. Several 04-05 Vs with the upgraded 06+ rears have blown, but not a LS2 V.

I'm not quite so sure about that. It would take more time then I have right now to research, but gut feeling is that you are off. I bet a post on the other forum could clear this up quickly.

I'd really like to hear YOUR opinion of the suspension differences between your Saleen and a V1 (CTS-V 2004 thru 2007)

Have to drive one first actually. Been around a few, but never behind the wheel.
I'm also contemplating getting into a 335i. My dad has a pretty modified 335i that I love.
My main complaint/reason to looking to get out of the Saleen is that I got a great deal on it as it blew the original motor, and I ended up putting in a forged 302 motor built like the S302 Extremes. That, and the seats, at least for me, are pretty uncomfortable.
Cts-v are pretty rare around here, but if there are any local members I'd trade a ride in my car for a ride in yours. I've always loved the look of them, and having that power in a 4-door reminds me of my last car, a 4-door M3, which I loved.
That and I love the engine platforms and their potential.

On a side note, I'd like to thank peoples receptive nature on these forums. I posted the exact same thread over at Caddilacforums.com and it was insta-locked without explanation. I can only fathom they didn't like me mentioning that I'm selling my current vehicle. But like here, I was respectful and didn't discuss pricing or link away from their site.
So thanks LS1tech!

I've kept a keen eye on it once I bought my V in early 2007.
CV joints and a few axles have gone but no gernaded diffs. Thought Tommy was the first but ended up being his CV.

Do it fast!!! You wont regret it. I sold my 2000 s281 and got my 2005 cts-v and there is absolutely no comparison. Plus mustangs suck, but only because theyre slow haha.

05 V owner here. Love the car to death. Take it on a 1000 mile highway trip and you'll know what I mean. Its the beez kneez
With that said, I really really really love the 335i coupe. Some mild visual mods and basic bolt on performance parts + tune and they become real beasts. Not to mention that E-dif works very well in the snow.

lol nah yours made good numbers. Mine was procharged D-1SC, full exhaust and all the other bolt-ons. It made 421 hp, but had some serious blowby and wasnt acting too healthy when I sold it. Pick up and V, and you'll never look back

Lol I'll be sure and take you up on that should I be in the area.
Mods on the other Caddy forum locked my thread saying I was making a for sale ad. Oh well. Glad people here are more receptive to someone sharing their ride and admiring the CTS-V.
I hear ya about the 335i. I'm really torn. On the one hand, I love the 335i coupe (not so much the sedan), and on the other, the looks of the CTS-V, and appear of a 4-door are a huge draw.
