Default just bought an 05 v1what do i need to know???

just bought an 05 v1 stock w magnaflow catback. rearend has an ever so slight whine and there's a bit of a clunking noise between gearchanges every once in a while... what do i need to know about this? what are some budget friendly rearend mods i can do? i've heard and read that these rear ends are weak, and that there's some sort of bushing(s) that can go bad causing a clunking noise... whats the fix for all this and no im not spending thousands of dollars on an aftermarket rearend. there has to be some relatively cheap mods to beef these things up a bit... this isn't a race car its a family car that will see some spirited street driving and that's it... any help greatly appreciated

ur diff bushing is probably crap. Mine was shredded after 31K. Get MM's, Trans Mounts, diff bushing, etc. to just tighten the car up. All the stock stuff is most likely bad. Sad to say

go with all creative steel stuff. Excellent customer service and good prices. There are a lot of people that will back them on here.

Also. As far as the diff. Only thing really to keep it from exploding is to buy some axles. $500 is way better than buying a new diff

ok thanks again... and why would axles keep it from blowing? i assume you mean anti wheel hop axles? bc wheel hop would be what kills the rear? if so what brand axles do you recommend? and as long as i don't see any wheel hop this really shouldn't become an issue right? and i feel like ive heard of some sort of "anti wheel hop bar or brace" if so whats the story on those?

dont buy any anti wheel hop braces or anything of that sort. It's a waste of money and certain things will make ur car vibrate like no other.

Yes, the wheel hop causes the diff to explode. Getting (wheel hop) axles will kill 98-99% of the wheel hop, thus keeping your diff fine. Try Gforce. www.shop.gforce1320.com/

Yes, anti-wheel hop axles will help keep that rear end together. Also the front differential bushing and the "diff block" that goes above it will help a lot with the clunkiness and the banging during hard acceleration.

Aside from that, motor mounts and trans mounts are also good to replace.
The shifter could also use some cleaning up, so new bushings for that along with a modified shifter from one of the members on the forums will much improve the shifter feel. It's one of the most appreciated mods from what I've read. See members azn2dmax and pissnuoff for shifter modification. If you don't mind dropping big coin there are aftermarket shifters available too. UUC, Katech, and B&M (discontinued) are options too.

also i might be considering turbocharging this thing how much power do these rears tend to handle? i know the main thing that will kill it is hard launches and wheel hop but all that aside how much power will they handle under hard load like for instance a 550whp turbo car making a 4th gear highway pull is it likely to break? or are they mainly just fragile due to hard launching from a dig and/or wheel hop??? thx again

I'm getting the clunking sound from the transmission area when I depress the clutch at low speed. 2006 V has only 8K miles. I thought it might be the throwout bearing, but it's kinda soon for that. Like everyone else says, these Gen I drivelines tend to be noisy.

moben coilvers. KW's V3's. Ground Control.

Moben and KW's are fully adjustable and you can drop however low you want, but you have to fork out the high dollars

Ground control utilizes your current shocks and it is adjustable, but only lowers to a certain extent

if you get the ground control and you want to lower it more than what it gave you, you can then go with the "MM" MightyMouse Mod. Which tricks the rear shock even more and slams it pretty low. The front isnt the issue, it's the rear

Stock rear setup

Ground control setup maxed in the rear for the lowest setting WITHOUT "MM" mod

I just purchased my car a few weeks ago and so far I've noted these things...

Replace the axles with Gforce anti/hop ones
Replace motor, trans, and rear bushing with Creative steel ones
The best CAI is a modded stock air filter
lindsay cadillac is the best dealer in the area
our trans sounds broken in 1st and 2nd, which is ridiculous for a luxury sedan.
If you want to lower it on a budget you can get springs and will want to get spacers from MightyMouse (member here) for the rear shocks.
All of this info is pretty much in the FAQ.

you should be able to scroll through my photobucket. I gotta check up on that

Our sach's shocks are self leveling. Pretty annoying. Ground control kit goes for like $480
