Default Poking around for some new tires

This is going to be my first time buying tires for the V.

I was thinking of going for another set of Goodyear Eagle F1's, as they are on closeout from Tire Rack for $111 a tire, which isn't too shabby.

I'm running stock wheels, and looking to do a 275-35-18. I don't mind the tire sticking out side the wheel face, as it tends to prevent idiots like me from getting rash on the wheels.

I'm on a bit of a budget, and this doesn't seem like too bad of a deal.

I have a nice line forming on the rear right tire, so it's time to start taking a look at this stuff.

I have Eagle F1's on the car now, and they don't seem all that bad, but I really haven't pushed them too much as they are really low on tread life.

I've run Dunlop's in the past, along with Hankook RS2's and Toyo T1R's. The Hankooks being my favorite so far out of those.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I'm running the Nitto 555's and really like them. I've also heard good things about the Hankook V12's.

GSD3s FTMFW, also liek the hankook v12s. I went to a hankook sponsored event and drove one of hankooks 05 mustangs around an autocross track with them on there and it did suprisingly well.

I love my Nitto Invos but when we get wheels/tires for my wife's new car they will be Hankook v12. They have tested very high in all reviews and are said to rival the PS2 in performance but less than 1/2 the price. They are very affordable.

I'm running 275/35 18 rear and 245/40 18 front with no issues.

Those look like a pretty decent tire for not a lot of money. I have to say, I've never heard anything about the Asymmetrics.

Not sure I'd got 275 on the front, though? They have stock sizes for the same price. Also, 275/35 is shorter than stock. A 275/40 would be almost identical to stock.

I picked up the Continental Extreme DW's and have been very pleased. Good tracking, quiet, predictable at limit, and work well in the wet. Very well rated, as well.

I'm running hankook V12's in their 255/40 R18 size on all four corners, I wanted to be able to rotate my tires.... For some reason my rears always wear faster than the fronts They are a little wider than stock and offer more rim protection, but without the bulge you will get with a 275/35.

On a road course they offer plenty of grip but when they do start to let go you can hear it, which makes it easier to drive right up to the limit without sliding off track.

On the highway they are great, very quiet.

From a dig they are so so, I can fry mine in first and second, but they might hold up behind a stock V... I'd buy a drag radial if you are serious about straight line traction, and breaking stuff.

In the rain they are great, I have yet to have any hydroplane issues.

Anyone running 275/40's with BMR trailing arms out back? Any issues/rubbing?

I'm running 275's with stock arms (are they wider than the BMR's?) w/o rubbing.

Yeah Meaty, assuming you are running the stock wheel the 275/35 is the wrong size. It is an inch shorter than stock. I just changed tires because when I bought the car, it had the wrong size tire on it. I'm running 245/45 and 275/40 now. It looks really good. I went with General GMax because of price and they are all seasons. This is my second set (first on the V). I'll be posting pics soon.

I had the stock tire size on my lowered V and thought it was to chunky looking so i dropped to one profile. IMO it looks perfect with 245/40 18 and 275/35 18. I've been running these sizes for the last 3 years.

I have a set of MAP trailing arms, if anyone is interested. The MAP arms are curved inward to allow a wider tire. Never used, but the powder coating looks like it is faded.

The car speedometer reads low by 1-2 mph at 75mph with 245/45/18 or 275/40/18. If that is a concern and want your car speedometer to read like german cars(3-5% high) than get a shorter tire like a 275/35/18 or 255/40/18, if you want it to be dead accurate 265/40/18 should do the trick. This can be checked by any gps even the slow responding one in the car.

So you are saying I should go ahead and try to sell my 245/40/18s here?! I didn't figure anyone was running this size. Figured I'd have to hit up the GTO guys.

I've had good luck selling my used 245/40 18 and 275/35 18 on ebay. I dont think many Vs have dropped a profile like i have.

Running nittos 555 275 40 18 gotta say on a warm day after about 30 min ride it takes some work to make it go side ways but I think a supercharger will solve that problem

I appreciate it man, but by the time I make the hour and a half drive (that's halfway) I'd already have a blowout

I found a guy locally that had a set of Micheline Pilot Sports for $100 for a pair used, but the bastard put the wrong phone number in his craigslist ad and hasn't replied to an email yet

I may just go with those Hankook V12's. Only $40 more and a brand I'm familiar with

Thanks guys, very interesting thread on tire size/brand choice. Keep it going if anyone else has any other input on tire selection/sizes
