Putting a new ls6 in an 05, what would you do
Some of you may have followed my other thread, where i was looking for an engine for my 05. I found a gm long block, and will be putting it in next week. While it is out, what else should be done?
The motor mounts were recently replaced with stock ones. I plan on doing the trans mount and shifter bushings while every thing is out.
I'm also looking at clutches, something that is easy in stop and go traffic.
What about a new oil pump?, oil cooler? Anything else?

I don't know about the oil pump, but I'd take a look at the GM maintainance schedual, and anything major that needs to be replaced, water pump, timing chains, and whatnot, I'd take care of that, and upgrade with better parts wherever necessary. Valve cover seals, any kind of cam or crank sensors that have a seal keeping oil in. Anything hard to reach, basically.
If you are thinking of doing heads in the future, do them now while everythings much more accessable.
Plugs is something easy that can be done.
Oh and don't forget, paint the block a nice badass color while it's out!

The C5 Z06 clutch/flywheel package works well. The part number is 12570806. Another popular option is the LS7 clutch/flywheel assembly.
For either of these, you'll need a spacer (~$75) from Katech, TPIS or one of the other vendors. You could also go with the longer Corvette slave assembly but the cost would be more than the spacer.
Do a search on porting the oil pump. It's not a difficult procedure if you're handy with a die grinder. The stock LS6 pump is quite adequate and even better once this is done.
The main thing about the oil pump is cleanliness, proper lubrication upon reassembly and the correct o-ring installed without pinching. This cannot be overstressed.
Katech sells a relief valve spacer to kick up the oil pressure a bit. It's about $10 or so.

Unless you are doing a cam and such the LS6 oil pump and chain are more then sufficient i wouldnt even port it on a stock motor.
If you staying stock I say find a stock ls6 setup a lot of people who bought the ls6 crates came with a cts-v clutch setup and will basically give them away. If not id pick up an LS7.

I'd put in a twin disc clutch for traffic driving. Plus it has great grip. The stock clutch is garbage IMO. Change the motor mounts out to either UUC or Creative Steel MM's. The stock ones will go bad....again.

I agree, skip the oil pump unless yours doesn't have the thick blue o-ring then just change that.
What I would do with no engine in the bay is degrease/clean everything under the hood.

Also Im stilll on stock motor mounts that were replaced about 25k miles ago. I look everytime the car is in the air and they are fine. I think people are way too fast to jump on that bandwagon.
