Default Need immediate help with a shifter install...im stuck

I,m in the middle of a shifter install and while attempting to remove the **** (following every bit of info/diretion from this forum) the stock shifter came apart into two pieces where they were mated from the factory. I now have part still attached to the car and half in my Hand with the ****/boot still attached. Im assuming the stock one is toast but my bigger issue is that i still cant get the **** off to reuse the boot with the new shifter. I have NO leverage to separate the **** since the shift lever came apart but its imperative i can reuse the boot at a minimum; the **** is already getting thrashed as ive tried everything so ill sacrifice it if i have to.

ANY IDEAS?

The two parts can be remated if I recall. They were just held together with some rubber. You can remate them with RTV/Hot Glue. I would research it more though.

Do you have a vice that you can clamp down the top? I beat on my shift **** with a rubber mallet padding it with a shirt. I pulled & pulled, but my buddy went in there & got it off in 10 secs. I . . uhh . . loosened it up for him.

Thanks guys! Once i committed to sacrificing the **** i broke apart thr **** at the seam after removing the leather. Then some hacksaw love followed by a swift smash of death from a 10lb sledge allowed me to, um, 'remove' the **** seeing the clip buried in the shifter i honestly dont think it was even possible to begin with --i mean that. I truly believe manufaturing differences or whatever 'buried' the edge of the clip in so deep it wasnt going to budge. I couldnt even get enough leverage to pry it lose with a flat blade...i had to literally cut around the clip to remove it.

I easily removed my shifter ****....

"put the shifter into reverse and while pushing toward the front of the vehicle, pull up on the **** to disengage the **** from the shift-arm."

Yeah I followed this same advise and for two days couldn't get mine off. So while driving down the road in 5th I yanked the entire ****, boot, and trim piece off at around 50mph. Let's just say it got my attention. LMAO.

The FAQ info didn't help me to get mine off either. After an hour's worth of reefing on it, it was suggested to give it a little twist while pulling up. That worked like a charm.

Me too. I think the FAQ even said not to twist it. Twisting it was the only way it came off mine, this was true on the stocker and the UUC.
