Default Cheap way to make your Shifter "Heavier"

So i'm pretty ghetto...

If you want to make you shifter have a little mor mass (heavier) go to Harbor Freight and buy a half inch drive 1 1/4 short impact socket. Remove your shift know and slide the socket onto the shifter and then replace the ****. You may wan to put some sort of tape to isolate the socket form the shifter shaft so you wont get any metal to metal vibration noise. It added some "mass" to my shifts and it feels better. Hope you all like. LOL

Looking at it you could possibly use a "deep" socket to add even more weight.

Cheers

stuuuuper ghetto... i like it!

doesn't the weight have to be at the top of the shifter to feel the benefit of a weighted shift?

-- Anyone know of a cheap weighted shift ****? 5/8-18

Yes and no... Its like any other high priced short shifter. The weight is in the stalk and you use your stock "light" weight shifT ****. It's adding more weight to the stalk b/c the stock stalk is hollow and not CNC'd like the others. You can definately feel it in the shifts. Try it... What's $5? LOL

haha, i'll have to give that a shot as well. maybe I can machine something up that is less ghetto.

shadyls6- In physics, you learn about a "moment". A moment is simply (force)x(distance). Because you're adding weight to the upper part of the shifter, you're increasing the moment. In actuality, it takes more force required to initially shift, but the momentum of the added weight makes for less force required through the shift, and makes it feel heavier. So, if you increase the additional weight, your moment increases...also, if you keep the same added weight, but move it a higher distance, the moment increases. I would imagine a heavy shift **** would do the same thing, just obviously be more expensive.

great job with the "ghetto" innovation azn2dmax!

Are you an engineer? LOL

Thanks!!! Like I said you can feel the difference in the shifting.
