Default Fuel issue

Went into a store came back out started my car and it shut off after a few seconds. So I tried it again. It turned over strong and didnt start up. Tried it again and patted the gas a little and it started so I reved it some. It was sputtering then I let off the gas and the car shut off again. I got the car to start again do I moved it into a different parking spot to leave it. The check engine light did come on. My car has 50 k miles. Completely stock.

Does any one have an idea of what could be the problem?

I'm thinking change fuel filter first. Then move on to fuel pump

Any help will be appreciated greatly

Read the code, advance or pep boys will do it for free if you can get the car there. Fuel filter may be the culprit but don't rule out an electrical connection thats loose somewhere. Good luck.

You shouldn't have pump issues at 50k miles, but have you ever ran out of gas? That can cause damage and lead to premature failure.

If you turn on the ignition, do you hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds? It's right under the rear seat so if you're quiet you should hear it. If you don't hear it run, the fuel pump fuse is under the carpet in front of the passenger side rear seat.

If all that is good, change the fuel filter and go from there.

I bet your fuel bucket has shorted. like mine and others. the electrical connection on the fuel pump bucket has more than likely shorted at the top.

it will still work intermittenly and you will eventually start seeing fuel on the floor.

you will be replacing your fuel pump bucket.

does not matter the mileage or mods. the bucket shorts out.

Ok thanks for the replies. I found someone i know with a scanner. We hooked it to the car while it was running. It said misfire on a single cylinder at first then it started showing misfire on different cylinders.

The fuel pump was on and working. So now I'm thinking vacuum leak or something w the computer. Any ideas?

Wow that's interesting. Have there been other problems like this? Seems like low mileage for that to have happened if all stock.

This is concerning. Would you guys go back with stock springs or does somebody make a dual spring set up with light seat pressure? I am not a fan of heavy valve springs for the street.

ive already replaced it with the factory part. I would love to upgrade them but it was not in my budget. I thought it was low miles for that to happen too. I am third owner and have driven it a little over 10k miles. I do drive it like a sports car. I get on it hard at least once a week if not more but not constantly. i putt around most of the time.
