Default Quick question about the Volant intake? And can K&N recharge kit be used with volant?

I'm buying a used Volant intake for my car and I want to give the used filter a fresh cleaning prior to install. I have a K&N recharge kit here on the shelf in the garage and I'm assuming they use the same degreaser and the same oil (other than the color) but i wanted to make sure before i use it. I searched on google for the answer and some people on other forums advised against using the K&N kit on the volant filter (without any reason as to why) and others said that both companies use the same cleaning agents and same filter oil (just different colors) and it would be fine.

Has anyone used the K&N recharge kit on their volant filter? Any issues?

I'd prefer to have the cool blue volant oil but I cant be bothered to spend the $15 for another cleaning kit to sit on the shelf if they both do the exact same thing. Red or blue really doesn't matter anyway once the box is sealed up since the filter isn't visible with the volant.

LMK on that fellas!!

Also, the used Volant kit i am buying looks to be in good shape other than the filter being a little dirty but i noticed it has a small nozzle looking thing installed on the intake tube up on the elbow near the throttle body. Current owner said it came on the car when he bought it and it has a plug over it. I know this wont cause any problems but what is it?? I figure it might have been a nitrous nozzle or maybe a port for a vacuum tube of some sort?? I know my 05 doesn't have a vacuum hose in that location and the car it is coming off of is an 05 as well but i was thinking maybe the 06/07 (LS2) cars might have a vacuum line there. I know the intakes are interchangeable fitment wise 04-07 but I see they have a part number for 04/05 only and im assuming another one for 06/07. Thought maybe its an LS2 specific intake and perhaps they have a line that goes there??

Take a look at the pic and let me know. You can see the nozzle in the bottom right corner of the pic. I haven't seen any other volants with this little brass looking nozzle on them.

If there is no use for it, is there any way I can completely remove it and seal the hole so nothing is impeding air flow inside that elbow?

Thelostdriver... Sounds good bud! lol I'll know something soon.

kl2onik... Yeah man, i kinda figured that but wanted to be sure. I couldn't see the different brands using different agents. I would think filter cleaner/degreaser would all be the same and the filter oil would all be the same as well. Guess they just make the oils different colors to try to keep them brand specific.

I took this jewish tip from Cole, wash it with dish soap, then spray it with the Pam kitchen spray. Worked just fine.

Hahaha! I think u might be onto something. Sounds like there might be a good performance gain to be had from that. Not to mention when the filter gets good and heat soaked, I can throw a chicken breast on it and won't have to worry about it sticking...

You can use it. Only thing that might happen is you might lose the blue color. I used it on my old Volant and it just turned a bit grayer.

Yeah... I'm just going to use my K&N filter charger kit. Ill just make sure i clean it really good so hopefully the filter will just be the red k&n color.

Anyone know anything about that nozzle in the side of the intake tube?? LS2 guys have anything like that on your volants? Trying to figure out what it would be for??

LS2 engines need that tubing. Its not needed in an LS6.
I've seen guys put tiny air filters on it, etc. Its a vacuum tube.

Oh ok... well that makes sense then. Assuming whoever bought the intake bought the one for 06/07 even though it was going on an 05 and just capped it off. Good to hear it comes that way though. Was hoping it wasn't a nitrous nozzle or something that someone drilled and installed in the garage.
