Default New steering wheel-- F***ING KNUCKLE-DRAGGER MECHANICS

Gentlemen,

Had some work done at the local mechanic shop, and the knuckledraggers scratched the leather on the top of my steering wheel. It looks like the wheel was turned and someone dragged a toolbelt under it while getting out of the car. I want to get them to replace the wheel.

What are my options for a steering wheel? I don't want to leave it completely in their hands, cause they may end up ordering a wheel that's even more badly scratched. I don't mind getting a used wheel, but where can I get one that I'm sure will be top quality, without scratched leather, etc.?

Also, what's the deal with the aliminum plate on the wheel. Is that usually sold as a separate piece?

Thanks,
DAC

A competent upholstery shop should be able to recover it. There was a GB going a while ago if you search. People were getting them wrapped in alcantara I believe.

I saw that, and now they are selling them on ebay. It costs $399.

Dallas Custom Steering Wheel

I like the alcantra and perforated leather combination:

However, that's a lot to pay because the mechanic fucked up. I would rather a used replacement with unblemished leather. Not sure if that exists, though.

Call Contemporary Corvette in Pa. I got a perfect used wheel from them. It still has all the grain intact. It was about $150 and it included the aluminum bezel that was also in perfect condition. They are a little tough to deal with so be nice
