Default Trunk lid - struts?

I'm having paint work done since a tree dove out of the woods and committed suicide on my bumper. The insurance estimate lists all of the factory options and one of them is a power assist trunk lid. Is that right? If so mine doesn't work. I just thought the lift cylinders were wore out from sitting. It's an 05 with only 15k on it. Any input?

I don't believe there is power assist on the V's. Probably a weight/cost thing.

Ok. I thought so. Must mean electronic release, not assist. Anyone replace those lift cylinders? Can't be too tricky or expensive can it?

Are they different for the V or same for all 03-08 CTS models?

Anyone know? Sorry to bump it again. Does the V have the same trunk lid struts as any other CTS?

Just go to your local auto parts and get new struts. I got new ones from autozone

People on eBay and Amazon sell sets of them for next to nothing. They work great. I picked up ones for the trunk and the hood with black anodized struts.

I thought there was a higher load capacity version for trunk lids with spoilers?

I've been wondering if mine are shot or not. My trunk takes a lot of effort to open, then reaches a critical point and pops open on itself and holds itself up.

When fresh, does it pop open automatically when the trunk release is activated?

No. But it opens to the 3/4 position as soon as you move it, and it's harder to shut.

No. What you are experiencing is the way it comes from the factory. Mine has been like that since I bought it new 7 years ago.

Thanks. You saved me a strut purchase, waiting, then minor disappointment, lol
