Argh... blew the motor.

Argh... blew the motor.
Well, after completely trashing my transmission 9 months ago, we finally got the transmission sorted out after the rebuild (Tick level 2). As it turns out the input shaft was bent and nobody noticed, which resulted in 8 months of head scratching.
So SNL spent some time on the dyno making sure all was good before I went to pick it up... and the motor let go.
I'm very aggrevated... at 9 psi I didn't expect to have this problem. But I'm submitting this post as a warning to all others out there... DO THINGS IN THE CORRECT ORDER! I knew better, but put a big blower on the car without building the motor anyway thinking it would be OK if I just kept the boost down. I was wrong...

Kudos for taking responsibility and not blaming the tuner.

What was the failure mode? I was hoping to run 8 psi through my stock LS2, and might be able to benefit from what happened here. Sorry to hear about the motor. At least now the path to 600 RWHP is far more clear.

9 psi through the peak tq?
I ve never had a problem with 10psi on stock LS6/LS1 / LS2 setups using centrifugal setups.
8 is very safe imo, and of course, intercooled helps.
also those setups see half that pressure through the 4300-5000rpm.
sorry to hear about the engine.

Yea the shortblock was all stock, ls6, 80,000 miles. Probably had 20,000 trouble free miles with a Maggie, but I've broken damn near everything on the car since installing the Whipple. CV's, axles, 1 diff, the tranny, and now the motor.
I bet if this were a turbo or centrifugal application, 9 psi would have probably been ok based on all the feedback I've gotten.
I don't know the exact failure yet.... Hopefully I will know in the next week when we can get it apart.
Hey, TMS.... Which aluminum shortblock do you have for 600RWHP?
Thanks,
Mark

Ever think about picking up a used LS6 or LS2 from a wrecked CTS-V? Might be super cheap, especially if you know how to strike a deal. There's that one guy with a LS6 with 150k miles (but 40 PSI oil pressure) that's asking $2800 right now. Then there's this one, which I assume you could talk down to < $4k.
