Has any one used the Red Line Heavy Shockproof Gear Oil in their diff? I don't have a whine but plan on changing the fluid when I get the car out and saw this...

Used it in my Gen IV rear and was much better than OE or Royal Purple. It's all I use now for diff's.

I use Redline 75W140 GL-5 gear oil in my differential, which is solid. Their Shockproof Gear Oil looks interesting, but there's no properties pane on the website. I'd be interested in knowing what they changed.

I use Redline 75w140 with a bit of GM additive. Still has a howl to it. I'm pretty sure thats due to the CS diff bushing I put in there, along with the block.

For what it's worth I had sent an email to redline about their shockproof a while back, this was their reply. I ended up just using the 75w90 as he suggest.

The ShockProof gear oils are very unique products, performing extremely well in many applications but not necessarily all. They are best suited to racing and some speciality applications, they don&rsquo;t contain sufficient friction modifier to control chatter from a clutch type limited slip on the street, also the low temperature/cold flow would also be superior with some of our other fluids.

It is likely that using the 75W90 would provide the improved protection needed, for some additional potential protection, if the issues are fluid related the 75W140 would be an option.

Redline 75W90 in my old diff and it is sounding and performing solidly. When you change it out don't be surprised if the pressure valve leaks/vents some oil for the first week when driving and you see the drivers side of the diff dirty.

I'm sure the 75W140 works but I don't see the need for it for most people and it's just going to add additional friction/drag on the diff once it gets hot.

Don't listen to me though, I'm the guy that put MTL in my rear diff for over a year lol...

When I got the car it had a slight whine around 25mph and it started to whine again and then I realized I picked up the wrong oil by accident right after I got the car. Switched it out to Redline and the whine went away. Everything came out clean out of the diff, but that MTL had started to break down as it was really thin. I think I basically just cleaned it out really well. 107k on it now and no whine.

Morale of the diff oil thread: Make sure you have some type of oil in it. Preferably an oil that is meant to last a while.

Redline fluids is some amazing stuff. Most DSM guys run Heavy shockproof in their rear ends and transfer cases. It's REALLY thick stuff.

I have Redline 75w90 in my rear diff... no whine.

Diff was a CPO replacement that is gen 4. Dealer fill. 1k later, drained for Dexron LS gear oil. Few k later, in went the Redline. Without checking records, that was 3+ years / 25-30k ago.

Can you guys please tell me if its two quarts or three quarts for a change? Cadillac faq is a little confusing on the amount. One topic claims three and another says two.

No idea how you would stuff 3 qts in there, hah. When I changed fluid, I also thought that it held a full 2 qts, so I was confused when I was only halfway through the 2nd bottle, it started seeping out of the fill hole.
