Default T56 no reverse while engine running

Hey guys,

I just picked up an 07 CTS-V about a week and a half ago with 23k on it. It seems every day it has been harder and harder to get into reverse. Now reverse is pretty much nonexistent unless the car is turned off, then it goes right in no problem at all. I am not very familiar with the T56's at all, but what should I look at? Hydro clutch fluid level is fine. All the other gears shift nicely.

Thanks.

I would confirm a good bleed and fluid and check your motor and trans mount sagging. Is it easier to go into another gear before reverse? If so I think it may be a reverse synchro issue internal to the transmission.

Going from 1-R, or any gear for that matter, doesn't help. It's just weird it only does it with the engine running or key turned to ACC. I wonder if the reverse lockout solenoid is stuck shut when it gets +12v?

You'd know if it was a lockout solenoid issue, you wouldn't be able to swing past 5/6. Sounds more like a air in the hydraulics to me. Get a turkey baster, suck out all of the fluid in the master, refill, then bleed.

Tonight I sucked out all the nasty fluid, and bled the clutch(pumped it 50x with the cap off). It does seem better, but still only goes in 1 out of every 3 tries. Anything else I should check out?

I have a reverse thread too! Haha common issue. Revshift trans insert made my reverse issue totally go away. I also have an 07, I really didnt believe the trans insert would make a difference, but it goes into reverse everytime. Good luck.

When you say " bled the clutch(pumped it 50x with the cap off)", did you never crack the bleeder that comes out of the bellhousing?

OP, how many miles are on the trans? Mine was having the same symptoms that you speak of for about a year before I lost the reverse gear bearing and it ended up shredding the rev syncro with it.
