Default Review: The $80,000+ 2014 Cadillac ELR (Video)

Three little letters. They're big business for Cadillac, which uses them to name almost all of its models, including the ATS, SRX and CTS. (The Escalade is too large a cash cow to fit within those alphabetical confines.) After a week with the 2014 ELR, I began to associate it with another trio of characters: BUT.

"It's a Cadillac, But..."

With sport sedans such as the CTS-V, Cadillac has firmly established itself as a maker of luxury performance cars. The ELR certainly has the attractive Art & Science styling of its athletic siblings.

What do you think about an $80,000 Cadillac?

eh, looks nice but id rather spend the $80k toward a new tesla. plus the tesla S is quicker too (302hp) compared to the ELR (84hp).

but in reality id probably spend the money on a v2 instead! lol

Agreed, I'd get the tesla way before considering the caddy.

Me too. I also read on the forum page this "is far from a Volt." Knowing GM, it probably shares many of the Volts parts making it an overpriced Volt on the interior. Shoood, the CTS-V is around $80k and I can pretty much assure you this ELR is nowhere near the car the CTS-V is. Also, they guy in the Youtube video stated he likes how the ELR's 20" wheels fill out the wheel well better than the 18" wheels on the CTS-V. That's further proof the CTS-V is a better car, hence the 18" wheels for better performance.

Well, you'd certainly have exclusivity if you bought an ELR. Cadillac hasn't been selling many of them at all - like, under 300 according the Road & Track I was browsing through earlier today.

Because of this:

If you're gonna go electric, the people with money are flocking to Tesla.

The people with money are flocking to the Tesla to keep their money. You can write it off on your taxes. Check out their web-site if you lease one for $900 bucks a month it comes out to less than buying a gas powered car with a $500 a month payment (at least for myself it works out that way). You get all the good parking in Chicago if you have an electric car because all the charging stations are closest to the buildings you have to get to. An other plus. The ELR is a volt with a nice interior as far as I'm concerned. If it was a better performer I think they would sell quite a bit more of them. They need an ELR-V.

I'd take the Tesla for that kinda money. Teslas look good and actually have some performance behind em as well.

The reviews i have read about the ELR have ranked it up there with vehicles like an s class and bentley as far as driving comfort and fit and finish is concerned.

I wouldn't doubt that the Caddy is a nice car. I love Cadillacs, but the Tesla is the more practical car for the money and has the looks to compete. I would love to have one as a DD.
