Default cant find the noise under the hood

Been on this issue for a few weeks..changed the idler pully/ tensionor assembly, tensionr pulley, harmonic balancer..i know it isnt the ac drive because i have disconnected that part of the system to rule it out.. this thing is driving me crazy ..the noise sounds like birds chirping but it goes away as the car heats up..the only thing left is the water pump.

Am i missing anything?

Did you take the serp belt off and try running it to see if the noise is not present?

I'm having the same issue in my 02 ss. My tensioner and idler pulleys are all fairly new but i pulled them off anyhow and removed the seals on the bearings and repacked them with a high quality bearing grease. Only thing left is the water pump pulley. Does anyone know if this can pressed on and off to inspect the bearing in the pulley?

Have you had p/s pump work done lately? The reason I ask is because that is the only pulley that is pressed on and can cause an alignment issue. I had the same problem on my 98 k1500. I bought a dayco alignment tool, and with a slight adjustment on the p/s pulley, its been quite ever since.

Silly question, but did you also install a new belt?

I installed a new PS/Pump and Belt. It never went away, I have the exact same problem but I typically don't hear it until its damp or cold out.

got to be a belt or pulley...especially since its there with cold temps/higher humidity.

try taking the belt off and see if it goes away, then install and see if it comes back....if it does use a stethoscope to narrow it down..

I've got a similar issue & it sounds like a whine vs birds chirping. I've taken it to my mechanic, but it's all warmed up by then & they never hear anything. I've had my water pump replaced after I was hearing the squeaking & still hearing it. So I don't think it's that. It might be time for a new belt, I can't think of the last time I got a new one. I've had the car for 3yrs.

do you think we can change just the bearing or does the whole pump need to go?

I found my noise it was the A/C clutches finally went. Atleast thats what I think it was I deleted that belt and when you spin the AC pully by hand it makes an awful grinding and squeling noise. I'm glad it was that and not the waterpump though cause with the T-Tops i don't really need the air so no hurry to fix or replace the AC unit.

OH, I figured out my sound. It was my power steering pump really low on fluid. The thing that irks me was I had just taken it to an oil change place that is supposed to top off your fluids. It came in making that sound & was still making it when I left. Took it to my mechanic, they topped it off & noise went away.
