Really GM?
So I got the safety recall for the ignition problem in the mail today. I opened it up and I had to laugh at the solution GM came up with to fix the problem. Really, GM wants me to take my car to a dealer to have them install 2 16mm key rings on my key? Pretty sure I can handle that on my own, not to mention The fact that I don't see what difference having two 16mm key rings would make. But hey, they will do it free of charge! Anyway, just thought I'd share this stupidity. Idiots!

No they don't. They glue a plug in the key's slot, replacing the slot with a centered hole. This creates less of a moment arm to keep the key from rotating. I'll take my car in once it cold and crapy out, since I get a free car wash with a service appointment.

There's a pic on the second page for those that don't read so good.
Absolutely stupid fix. I can't wait for a fuel pump recall where I
Have to cut an access panel in the floor so they don't touch my
Subframe or alignment

What am I missing here?????
My car is 10 years not many things left from the original build. Why the heck would I worry about this key thing or the fuel pump. Let either one fail and I will fix it right and be done with it. Last time the dealer worked on my car took me a year to fix the stuff they did wrong.......You ain't gonna get quality for free, ever! Even if the government mandates it.

That letter is just so people bring there car in, they run a 2052.3 point inspection, and then they tell you your car needs X, X, and X and it will cost $XXXX.XX and you need to schedule it ASAP otherwise it will explode! I took mine in two years ago for the airbag sensor in the passenger seat. They ran an inspection on my car, while fixing the sensor, and it needed over "$4k" worth of work done to it! Right when they told me that I told them I am just going to sell it (I was kidding) and walked away. Took it to my mechanic and he had to replace a $50 sensor and it was good to go. ******* dealerships!

Besides a Caddy dealer would SH@# themselves if they saw my car, they might genuinely have no idea what to do with it since it's so far from stock it's not even funny. They'd just curl up in a little ball and cry.

Um, not to spread FUD, but I think the recall is related this article:
http://pando.com/2014/10/18/gms-hit-...al-in-history/
Makes me want to get it done . . .
I don't keep but the GM key/fob, my desk key, and a caribiner on my key ring.
EDIT: Wow, I'm almost 75% done with the article (long read). If you think this is a joke, it is not. Yowza.

I took mine to the dealership a few weeks ago. Apparently all they did was add something inside the plastic part of the key. I asked them why it took over an hour and half to do that. They replied, "to let the glue dry"

But it does NOT resolve the true culprit of the issue according to the article in that a detent spring is too weak.
I was thinking the group buy I organized for keys weren't slotted, but I was wrong:
