Block heaters don't heat the oil. Only benefit would be having heat come out of the vents a little quicker.

My car will live in the garage this winter, as it has the past 3. I may buy this for my DD:

I tried one of those when I had my 88 diesel suburban. Used it once and it broke, POS, IMO.

I could care less about oil temps I drive easy when it's cold and modern oil works great in cold temps. I just want some heat when I take off, so I will probably look into the OEM block heater setup to warm up my coolant.

Conceptually a great idea, but poorly executed. It received a 2 star average review out of 5 on Amazon. But since it's only $15, I might just give it a shot anyway.

I don't like running too many of these accessories at idle. Don't think the alternator is spinning fast enough to run all that. Is the voltage regulator even on at idle?

Voltage is highest at startup and particularly in cold weather.

I guess this is based on watching the DIC voltmeter readings? My past experience has been exactly opposite of that but I don't have a voltmeter anymore...

Yeah, basically. Don't know why but it's always highest for the few minutes after startup. Mid-14V and then settles to mid-high 13V rest of time. Not sure if the regulator is set to output a higher voltage for a period of time or what....

Whatever this is worth, I got this response from Comp Cam USA:

"we do not build our springs in house so we do not have the metallurgy process at hand and that most of our springs are supplied by some of the same manufacturers that the "automakers" use for their valve springs and leave it at that. "

Interesting info. This might give some insight on the durability of these springs if they are used within spec limit.
