Default pilot bearing removal

Picked up these loaner tools from Autozone (same part numbers at O'Reilly)

27059 pilot bearing puller attachment
27033 slide hammer.

After taking one leg off the puller, they still would not go into my bearing, but was very close. A few minutes with a file in the right spots and it just barely slipped in. I don't think they'll notice.

Shot some PB blaster around and behind the pilot bearing. Three good pulls of the hammer and she was home free.

What you wanted was this: http://www.autozone.com/loan-a-tools...et/391362_0_0/

It works perfectly and no filing needed.

Wet paper, a socket with an extension, and a hammer, works like a charm.

They say that's no bueno on LS motors....freeze plug in the end of the crank. I used bread on BMW though and it worked great.

Yeah, I definitely didn't want to chance stuffing something in there. I figure it's a free rental from Autozone and it's the proper way.

I used grease and the alignment tool. Put some grease in the hole, pushy the alignment tool in. The grease forces the bearing out.

I used a puller with similar end to the one pictured... But it used a u shaped clamp style to pull it out. I had to dremel the pulling tips a bit because they were rounded off on a brand newtool. They ddidn't notice when I took it back.
