Default Gas mileage on reserve

I am only on my third tank of gas in my V so we are just getting to know each other. Last night I got the low fuel message in the Nav screen and ignored it for about 8 miles. Then I got it again and was heading for gas when I ran the @#$% out of gas in about another 3 miles

Anyone have a similar experience? It does not seem like much of a warning or "reserve".

I never let it get below 1/4 tank because of this. It has to do with the shape of the tank and where the fuel level is measured. The low fuel warning light, as you now know, means you only have about 10 miles left.

Also, when you let the fuel get that low I think you end up sucking up any material that might have gotten in your tank and settled to the bottom.

I do very little highway - my old average according to the DIC was just about 15.0.

Since the maggie went on, that has gone down considerably. About 13 now I think.

I get around 16 generally...

And yeah, the fuel gauge is not the best. Generally once I start getting low, I switch up the display to show fuel mileage and get gas once it drops below "LOW RANGE" which is 40 miles. Even that isn't very accurate though I don't think.

I replaced my nav with an aftermarket Alpine so I dont get the fuel mileage reading anymore. I like it better this way because I just tell myself that I'm getting 30mpg, you should try it.

Best I've gotten is 24 on the highway with 20 being the typical. Although, the extent of my highway driving thus far has mainly been 2-3 trips in Southern California so it's not a very good indicator.

On the highway when the reserve comes on it is 40 miles...and that is it. I had the pick up go dry on an up hill right at the end. Luckily I could coast back down.

I average 19-21, depending on how much city driving I do (and how that is done...). Usually my driving is probably 60% highway.

Thanks I thought I was going crazy. Tough to steer without power steering!

I am driving mostly stop and go and like to use the power on my drives home if I can. I am in the 16's every week.

dont let your tank run dry, it can ruin your fuel pump..... i get about 20 mpg average highway and city getting on it a few times. and get about 40 miles once the low fuel light is on.

The same exact thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago. My Low range light had been on for about 15 of my 24 interstate miles. It was the weirdest thing because it had given me a range of 55 miles then low range, and then 47 miles. Had to run about 3/4 of a mile to the nearest gas station and back.

That plane sucks! May I suggest a tune? 110 miles per day with 75% highway and 26-27 MPG.
