4.8's are fun little engines too but with above I wouldnt spend any coin on aftermarket heads etc. Cam only? Sure why not. Something like a 218/222 XE lobe comp with PAC 1218 springs, new pushrods and some long tube headers + decent exhaust will be a stout little package. Leave stock heads, intake, throttle body, ecm etc etc etc but add a decent stall if running auto.

Then build a bigger cube engine while driving this one to swap later if you find the power isnt enough for you.

Id build an NA 4.8.... Would be fun.

BUT, it would be a low torque, high rpm sleeper. Ported 243's and the right cam and intake and you have yourself a 7800 rpm screamer.

Great and fun for a light car, not so much for a heavy truck.

But with boost those 4.8's are animals.

The 24x crank is the older system and uses a slightly slower ECM.

The 58X is the current system.

DOD was available on almost all truck motors it can be tuned out or physically removed.

If your using a 24x ECM the DOD has to be physically removed its not compatible.

There is no right or wrong.

GM went 58x crank and 4x cam for emissions and better control of spark, cam timing ect.

Build what ever you find cheapest if you blow up a 24X and you want to swap a 58X later Lingenfelter sells an adapter box to change the signal.

The reluctor wheel is mounted on the crank.

The crank can be used in a 4.8/5.3 the pistons are not interchangeable the 4.8 bore is smaller.

I have a 4.8 sitting my shop. That's why I'm asking if it's worth building or should I build a 6L
