I have the moroso setup, but I have not installed it yet. it seems great, but it will require plumbing the coolant return, which might cost a few $$ in fittings, and a remote thermo housing

What benefit would there be in switching to a BBC pump?

My thoughts exactly. Kinda like the $$$ distributor kit, just because you "can" doesn't necessarily mean you should...

Maybe, but by the time you invest in all the other necessary parts to get it hung - NOT!

I'm not saying its cheaper in the beginning. Pump replacement itself should be cheaper though. Idk. Just a thought.

Okay, it been a few months, lol... has anyone found a reason for running a BBC pump - be it cost effectiveness or be it more options?

I realize this thread is old but I came across it searching for a reason why someone would choose to switch to a BBC water pump over a LS one. So I'm going to go ahead and post my findings encase someone else finds this thread like I did.

As to running the BBC water pump:

The only thing I can think of is price. I did some looking and the 55gpm BBC electric water pump (polished, chrome is more) from Meziere is $501. The LS1 electric water pump 55gmp is $831. So even if you incorporate the cost of the conversion bracket from AEICNC.com for $160 you still come out $170 to the good, throw in 20 bucks for fittings or something and that is $150 bucks savings. Is it worth it? Maybe to someone on a budget, but I would be willing to bet most people will just fork out the extra cash to alleviate any unnecessary complexity.

Looking at your mechanical BBC pumps prices: OE replacement $56, Summit hi-volume water pump is $66, Weiand is $100, and Edelbrock $200.

Your LSX mechanical pumps prices: OE replacement $160, PRW $280, Edelbrock $320, Evans $540.

To me its worth it....

I am switching from my BBC 632. that motor ran a$100 proform pump 35 gpm and stayed cool and ran around 180 with no thermostat.

You just set a restrictor size if it wont heat up. I also have a buddy who runs no thermostat with a 427 windsor same feedback you dont need a thermostat.

Price. You can get some good BBC water pumps for 150 to 200 dollars. Not a Maziere
We run the Moroso 55 gal pump with their remote thermostat housing, and it works great. Make sure you run a high flow thermostat. No cooling problems what so ever. And we are 14:1 and drive it all over. Even on 100 degree days. No sweat.

Default Centrifugal Pump Direction

Please remember the LS-x pumps in reverse direction from the BBC pump.
This is also the same direction as the Wegner GN West pump.

My choice from many engines is the Wegner pump due to the more common water inlet position.

I have not found a reason to run an electric pump yet. Much less a BBC pump. The truck pumps are 76$.

in drag racing, being able to run the pump/fans without car running cools it down quick, big plus if hot lapping
