I'v got a T-bucket that weighs 2300 lbs with my 250lb *** in the seat & it's got an 02 LS-1 with TEA Heads, a Vic Jr , Holley 750 & the can is 230/230 612/591 & a 111+2 LSA, it's also got 3.90:1 gears. When I put it together I used a Hughes 3000 stall in it, but it feels like a stock converter when I drive it. I talked to the guys @ JW converter & they suggested a custom 3600, but I'm not convinced that 600 rpm is gonna make that big a difference. It's a street car, but I would like to try to run the 1/8th with it this summer. Does anyone have any input?? I don't think I'm getting all I can out of this thing, I never raced anyone, but I have a buddy with a Camaro that runs 10.80 in the 1/4, and his car definitely feels quite a bit faster than mine.

yes a 3000 to a 3600 would help. when does your cam start making power?

The power comes in at 3500 I think, but the car is really light, it's got a 3000 in it now, but because of the low gears and weight I think it flashes alot earlier than 3000. That why I was thinking 4000 or so?? But I still want it to be streetable.

What size rear tires? They are probably recommending a 3600 to get you closer to the stall point at cruise. If your going down the road 60 mph at 3000 rpm's with a 3600 stall you are below the ideal efficiency range and would be building heat moreso on heavier vehicles. 4000 stall would be fine being as light as your vehicle is. But you are going to give away a little of the torque feel, build a little more heat and lose some MPG's for that better launch at the track.

3600 stall is the highest I'd go.

When you say that the 3000 stall feels like a stock stall, my question to you is what did you think the stall was going to do?

The weight of the car is what makes what you have so tight.

Jw is going to get you something built to see 3600 at your weight.

If you have a good cooler on the trans I would not worry about the heat at all. Mine goes 6000 and has no heat issues.

Light car needs more stall than a heavy car with same combo...as said above.

IF they recommend 3600 and it's still not right, they "should" re-stall it one time for free...still a PITA pulling the tranny again.

You need atleast a 3500 i would go with a 3600. Call coan stalls. I know everyone says this stall best this one is the best you cant tell its there when driving normally but is very strong.

Off the shelf converter will not work properly with such light vehicle weight. Going to need a custom built unit designed around it.

I would call edge racing converter and he will get your weight and engine combo and get you what you want, He was dead on with mine. I got a 36oo stall, i would go more if i did it again.

It's got 31.5 x 18 x 15 Mickey Thompsons on it now, but going to Drag Radials, same size. When I'm at a dead stop and nail it, it barely spins the tires, but if I get rolling 15 or 20 mph and nail it it smokes the tires, and feels like it's pulling alot harder. I thought that when you had a high stall speed, it was supposed to be kinda like revving it up and dumping the clutch in a standard shift car. They say that the lighter your car is, the earlier it flashes, My concern is that with a 3600 stall that it will still flash before the power really comes on. BTW, I appreciate all the responses!!!

No if your cam makes power at 3500 get a 3500 or a 3600 i would not go higher. It doesnt matter if your car is as heavy as a tank or lite as a feather a properly installed stall will kick in when it says it will.

I say go with a 4000 stall. Its a fun street rod... you have 3.90 gear and a 31.5 inch tall tire. You will be fine. This will make the car 60ft better -if you can hook!

Light cars need the extra stall. Did HUGHES know your car is only 2550lbs with driver?

I am running a 3500 stall on my TH400 in my 3000lbs C3. I think I could use a little more stall. (REALLY I NEED GEAR currently 3.36 with 29 inch tire) but I like the set up now because I can drive 70-75 mph on the highway to the track - run High 10s 1/4 or High 6s in the 1/8th and drive home.
