Default lq9 or ly6 with carb setup?????

hey guys getting ready to start a swap, i had planned on doing a lq9 but i can get a ly6 with about the same milage for only a few hun more. plans are this...

vic jr and big carb (pro systems)/ msd setup with a plate kit 175-200
Tick cam and valvetrain including vvt delete if i go ly6
deck and stud the heads with good valve job and hand port
rod bolts
GM performance oil pan kit
dynatech headers
glide/th350 with nos conv

So that being said is the ly6 worth it. I know the heads are killer and they already have factory valve reliefs. I can get the vvt delete for 120$ from texas speed so if thats the only flaw its kind of a no brainer but this is my first ls engine build so i just wanted some input. Thanks in advance

You had a short block ***, and it needed to be rebuilt or some dumb crap. So you didn't have a LY6, you had a 6 liter short block. Throw 317s on it and you woulda had a LQ9 basically.

they are both basically identical with different heads. the ly6 has a very small valve relief due to the gigantic intake valves on the square port heads. it all depends on what you're after.

i see that you plan to do a valve job and port. the nice thing about the square port heads is that you only need to port the exhaust side for the most part. the smaller valves of a lq9 would give you more leaniency with cam selection due to PTV issues.

yep, i'd take the LY6 on something as light as a mustang. also with a LY6 you're guaranteed the full floating pistons and stronger rods. win/win. just hit the exhaust side and barely touch up the intake side of the heads
