Default 86 Z28 5.3 swap

A friend just swung by tonight and we dialed in the tune on his 86 Z, i figured i would share, it was a bit lean after getting the timing in and now she is spot on after jetting up the primary a few sizes, it was only a bit rich. The cam is a custom grind 235/239, 110 LSA and .600 lift, milled 243 castings and a over the hill 200K plus 5.3 liter, go LS! Runs fantastic, 750 DP, 74P 78S jets, hawks swap headers with built 700R4, 3.90 gears in a 10 bolts. Has some clean up to do but this is his first time to drive it since the swap, he towed it to my place and drove it home. He had a 6.0, which the replacement pistons let go and now he went this route for temporary till he gets another 6.0 to increase power(or will there be a stroker?).

Im going to have to call bs on this car having 200k on the motor. I was reading a thread over on thirdgen and those guys said a sbc can easily do 200k, but a LSx gets piston slap after 20k.

Fun lookin car though. I love me a swapped third gen.

Wow, thats some denial going on in that thread. Its the same thing that the tunedport guys ran into with the LT1, and the LT1 owners ran into with the LS1. More cylinder head and more RPM potential, plain and simple. They would really think that im insane. I swapped from a dart headed 500 inch big block chevy to an old truck motor LS, lol. Eric L

yup, thats my car, i wanna thank Zane for getting dialed in, its a night and day difference, and drove fine all the way home about 40 miles out.
the motor is a stock bottom end 5.3 out of a t-boned suburban, it was well mantained. i knew milage was high but just wanted to get car running again, plus i only paid 300 for complete motor, did a compression test which was decent and ordered a custom cam for it.
Even with that high milage the car rips! feels stronger than my old efi sbc which ran a best of 7.7 @ 86mph....my plans for this one is get it fine tuned and run as best as i can na then il put a bottle on it, probly a 100-150 shot...then am confident it will be a junk yard motor 10 sec car on a budget lol

Yessir, it runs the hardest of any 5.3 I have yet to
Put my hands on, my 5.3 might have had a touch of high end scream but that one has ***** from down low to the 6900 rev limit, glad we got a chance to get together and get it dialed in Gus!
