Default Aussie drag combo, e85 carb/dizzy/mech fuel pump 10.1@132

I've been sniffing around here for the past year building up my drag car. It's a 1984 Holden VK Commodore, very early cousin of the aussie based GTO. Anyway its stripped out and running a late model L98, alu 6.0 engine with square port heads, but e85 carbed. Will list the specs below. Just finished tuning it on the dyno making 320+rwkw (430+rwhp) and 1200+Nm (900 ftlb); not bad through a 4700 convertor. took it on its first outing to strip yday, couple shaky runs spinning 235 radials and missing gears (11.19@124mph, 1.69 60 ft), then swapped to slicks and hit an oil patch nearly putting it in the wall. it will run 130+mph with ease when i finally get traction, and aim is 10 low n/a.

still not completely finished, want to redo the rear end shortly. specs and pics. any Q's just ask

L98 6.0 stock rotating assembly, pistons fly-cut 60/70thou
New main and cam bearings
25% UDP pulley
Factory heads unported, decked 100thou (58cc chambers), 11.9:1 comp
236/246, 613/613, 110 lsa hyd roller
Trunion upgrade
Vic Jnr
1" spacer
e85 1000cfm carb from eric at horsepower innovations
220gph billet holley mech alcohol pump
holley billet reg
10 litre fuel cell in bay
MSD Billet dizzy, MSD 7AL3, MSD HVCII coil
mezeire electric water pump
custom 4-1's, 1 7/8" into 3" collector
TH350 forward pattern
Dominator 4700 convertor
Borg Warner 3.45 mini-spool 28 spline axles
car fully stripped, lexcen windows, no tar, 6pt cage, 2700-2800lb
90/10 fronts, koni yellow rear

scary footage of when it nearly hit wall on 3rd ever run.

And do you mean L92? The L98 was never labeled as any LS platform as far as I remember.

essentially the same, but more like the L76. flat top pistons and higher comp, running a ls3 manifold. released in australia only, in passenger vehicles with the dod.

actually 920ish. e85 definitely helps, but convertor is spot on as well.

I'd say! Must have made her at pretty low rpm?

Looks like you need a rear anti-roll bar and some track prep.

I make the same/more power with only half the torque. Either you made the torque way low or something doesn't add up? Either way it looks like a solid combo, mine just took me 96.5 mph in the 1/8th with a 3150# pickup and plug wire issues, low timing, and 11.8~ afr. These combos are nice for sure tho!

Your right something is off,
1Nm = .7376 lbft of tq
EDIT, I didn't mean to **** on your car, it's cool, a low 11 car is fun. I just don't understand the conversion from NM to lbft is all

that track is bad, rear end needs to tweeked with adjustable upper control arms etc.

the torque is high as it has a big stall convertor (4700 rpm) which multiplies the torque. in a manual or standard stall it would be half.

Definitely cool car.

So that was the torque measured at the wheels? But don't most people back out the gear ratio to get engine torque when specifying torque off a chassis dyno?

So then divide the wheel torque by the 3.45 rear end ratio? That seems too low, I don't know. Now that I think about it don't often see rear wheel torque being quoted.

At any rate that car moves out. Weird seeing that big red MSD dist cap up front.

took her out to calder last night. stupid busy. andra guys were busting my ***** on tech inspection, luckily it was booked in for proper inspection next mon, so they let me slide. warned me i'd get a tap on the shoulder if i ran in the low 10's.

by the time i hit the track the line was back to the turn-off for timeslips, so it was a patient wait in line. lucky no oil downs.

first run on soft launch, 10.79@130 with 1.61, track seemed sticky, so decided to nail second run. nothing from andra guys so lined up again, wayy down the back. temps dropping and track was getting sticky.

nice big burnout, she launched off the line so kept the boot in, short shifted a little to be safe. going back thru pits no andra guys, but track marshalls weren't letting any more cars thru. was a little disappointed as thought it was a 10.4 or something. then i see a mate and he's jumping up and down shouting 10.1, didn't believe him so back to collect time slip. 10.15@132.4 with 1.47 60ft. absolutely over the moon. car went dead straight and strong.

big shout out to nick @ njclsx for a lot of help.

she's already back at the workshop for tech inspection on mon, also got some scales lined up. definately going to aim for 9.xx n/a, which is possible if i can get 135 mph. still running a safe rich tune and only spinning it to 6900-7000. also need to pick-up adjustable rear control arms and boxed lowers from Provk. stay tuned.
