Default suggestions/opinions on 408 combo please

I have a 408 going into a nova. The bottom end is built well with eagle crank, diamond custom pistons, eagle rods, studded through out. I have a thunder racing stroker cam, I believe the specs are 244/248 .625 .625 on 112lsa. I was going to use cnc ls3 heads with a victor jr carb setup and msd 6010. Should be around 11:1 compression. Will this cam work well with these heads? Shooting for about 500whp. I already have everything but the heads. Any opinions would be great.

Im around 460 whp thru a th400 with stock ls3 heads and 364 ci. My cam is a 234/250 .622/.629. Your extra cubes could get you there especially with ported heads, and ill bet your cam will be fine aswell. Good luck with your build.

should be very stout and streetable with that cam. I would consider a super vic intake if you really want to rev it.

What kind of carb are you using?

The split is a little tight for the LS3 heads. The tight split will only cost you a little power up high, from what Ive read. The LS3 heads exhaust port is weak compared to the intake port, so at upper RPMs with your cam, the exhaust side will start backing up some. It should still be a serious player though. GLWB !

you're going to need to get a cam ground for that setup.

Plan on using a Mighty Demon 750 for now. The stall speed is gonna be around 3400-3600. I really don't need to rev it too high. Will be more street car then race car. It will have plate kit on it as well. Ill be back in here looking for more insight. I appreciate all the comments.

I run a 950 as well. I think a 750 would choke it.

I am not liking that cam either. Get a cam spec'd for your setup Geoff @ eps or Pat G. Also you need more carb. A 950 will be what you need.

He has a 408. To me, any 400"+ motor is square port territory. Even on milder combos.

It will run good with the 750 if you already have it, but there is more power to be had with a true 950 or 1000 cfm unit.

Shouldn't that Demon 750 be exactly what he needs? I thought the Mighty Demon 750's flow more like Holley 850's. Something about better airflow/design and being rated different.

maybe, but with a new Holley like the Ultra 950 hp, they flow a true 950. My car still has more in it, and jmarkaudio said it would probably pick up with a 1000

you run at us60? red car? When I had that engine in my car it had patriot stage 2 ls6 heads, and a 232/234 .595 .598 in there and it made 470whp through a th400. 3800lb car to 7.20's. I figure I will just leave the heads on there and do a camshaft upgrade. Surely it could push this 3000lb nova in the 6's. That is the plan. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Never been there. My car is a white coupe. I run Paducah, dyersburg, Jackson, Clarksville, Bowling green, sikeston. Lots of others, but never US60.

Got another ? while I have you guys on here. Would doing midlength headers and dual cutouts be as good as longtubes? Would like to lower the car at some point. Any suggestions on 1968 nova?

The extra individual pipe length for each port is going to out do mids, IMO, even with the dumps. Just dumping the pipes wont give the tuned runner advantage you get with the long tubes. Hedman makes a hustler header for the LS swaps that really does a great job. They claim to have really worked at getting max HP/TQ with their long tubes. I run their 1 7/8" on my LS3 in a 72 Camaro and the fit is great and they don't set any lower than my deep trans pan. They tuck in great and the ceramic finish looks brand new after over a year of use.
