Default Cam suggestions

Stock bottom end 5.3, stock head with 1.94/1.57 valves mild hand port job. Vic jr intake 750 QF carb. 1 3/4 long tubes 3" x pipe. Car weighs 3100 lbs with my big *** in it. Th350 trans, 410 gear, hughes 4500 converter. 28" tall tire. This will b a track car with occasional street driving. Car has manual brakes so vacuum is not a problem. From what ive gathered these lsx like high lift fast closing cams. What point does ptv clearence become an issue? Any cam suggestions or combo suggestions r greatly appreciated.

I'd suggest getting a pro to spec a cam for your application.

How high you want to spin that stock bottom end?
What are your goals for ET? High 11's? Low 11's? 10's?
Nos?

Keep in mind 116MPH is only about 5600RPM in high gear.

he recommended the off the shelf sns stage 2 for me..

I want to be realistic about what i hope cars goes, if it ventured anywhere in the high 11's i would be pumped. I dont want to get my hopes up though lol. Im not new to sbc or sbf but def new to lsx market on top of going carbed as well. Whats the name of the company you used? Also i would feel ok turnin the motor 6500-6800, i hear tell that the rods and rod bolts are the weak link in bottom end. I wana mke sure all the bugs are worked out before i go building a stout shortblock

I know high 11's low 12's should be easily achieved. Could get a low 11 car too depending how radical a cam you can live with.

If you take the best cam in this it shows 442hp
http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...n/viewall.html

Take a look at some of the ET/Weight/HP calculators... to give you an idea of what the car could run. be careful most calculators need RWHP...

A l33 will be better than a lm7 as its higher compression...... but be aware Piston to valve clearance will need to be checked.

A 4500-6500+ race power band be nice... just be aware more gear might balance the combo better. If your peak power is about 6300 then shift point is likely about 6500, I like to gear the car to cross about or just higher than your shift point... say 6700RPM through he top. This normally gets you the best performance in the 1/4

Another thing to think about is rotating mass... light rims and drive-shaft will help your et... so be aware when picking these parts.

Just remember and don't get upset if you hit the track and run a high 12 or low 13 first time to the track... lots of tuning to get a car to run what it should suspension, shocks springs, carb/efi tune etc etc.

Good luck with your build! I like the 227/235 or maybe even the 226/234 cam mentioned... mind you my 6.0 has a milder cam.... its an EPS 222/234 111+4 with l92 heads.

That one above would run pretty good. With a 4500 converter, you could probably go as far as 231/242 on 110+4 on your 5.3 without flycutting if the heads haven't been milled. You also don't have to go to crazy with the lift on those stock heads either. Something between .580" -.610". Just get you some good valve springs and push rods to make sure everything stays under control. And, prepare to be amazed.

A 5.3 just doesn't need as much duration, especially with a single plane as a 5.7, 6.0 or larger.

The 227/235 .614/.621 110+3 SNS Stage 2 is a great track minded 5.3 single plane camshaft.

We're hoping to do that really soon. I'm having a hard time deciding which cams to offer for the group buy. Everyone has a favorite, but there are definite best sellers.

I don't know if it will be this month or next month, but it will happen.
