I googled it once cuz I wanted to use my friends windows 8. It was a huge list. Like 12 steps just to get it to open... well needless to say we never figured it out. Pita is what windows 8 is.

You might make sure the adapter and drivers are compatible to windows 8. We use it all the time to communicate to cnc machines.

This^^^. I had to buy a new USB to Com adapter when I bought a Windows 8 laptop. I bought the Tripp-Lite Keyspan USA-19HS on Amazon and it solved my problem.

I had a similar problem with a new Windows 8 laptop. MSD pointed me to the instructions on their website- mine is working now.

After trying 6 or 17 times and not getting anything....wife thinks I had the old lap top on the last outing.
I could of sworn I've used this new one to make and adjustment or three ?

Anywho, seems my usb to serial doesn't work with windows 8

Sorry you are running into all this grief! I bet you could go on CL and find an old laptop for under $100 and make it your tuning bitch!

I may have to do the same. The wife is not to happy about me stealing her laptop every time I go for a test drive!

I found a few adapters on-line that say they wok with 8.

Yeah, I hate windows 8. My son's laptop is 8 and everytime he has trouble with something on it he brings it to me and you almost have to relearn crap.
