MSD 6010 lost 2step function
#6
i got a chance to finally spend a little time probing. the 2-step wires ARE getting voltage all the way to the box. no idea why it's not working, so it must be internal in the box i emailed MSD about it to find out if they have seen this before. hope to hear from them soon.

response from MSD:
"This is not a common issue on this particular ignition, however it is electronics so unfortunately anything is possible. Although you have checked your wiring, I have to ask if you have bypassed your switch on the dark blue wire and put this wire directly to 12 volts to see if it will activate?"
my response back to them:
"No i have not put direct 12v to the dark blue wire, bypassing the switch. however, my switch is feeding the 2-step AND a linelock solenoid, and the solenoid still works fine. i have not done a voltage drop or load test either, but i can't imagine this circuit takes much current to trigger."
that's where we stand with that at the moment. that was 2 days ago. no response.

Well, I don't know what kind of luck the OP has had. But, I just spoke with MSD and they said it sounds as though there's an internal issue with the box's two step function circuit. They then informed me that the 6010 is not repairable, so I'm just *** out and will need to buy a new one. Great product, MSD!

I talked to 3 different people, all of them said it was non-repairable and they wouldn't replace it. Had I known this thing was non-repairable I wouldn't have been so quick to buy it. I have had trouble with MSD 6AL boxes over the years, but they were all dealt with fairly by MSD. They pretty much told me I was SOL on this thing. Has all of barely 400 miles on it. Nobody on the phone lines or on the MSD tech site seems to give the slightest sh*t about it either.

To be honest though Ratbox, what other options do we have? They have us by the ***** unless you want to dish out big coin for a distributor conversion....
i will be bringing this thread and your thread on MSD's page to the attention of the tech i've been in contact with. He was going to send out a repair order number so I'm not sure what he was talking about.

If the tecs are saying you are sol especially with such low miles, I'd take it higher up. Talk to someone in the corporate office. They don't want the bad press, and **** spreads like wildfire nowadays, with social media.

^i have links to all 3 threads to the tech now. he called me within 20 minutes but my work doesn't allow me to take personal calls very easily. i am hoping to hear from him again as i called back and left a message. we'll see. the MS3 thing sounds interesting.
