Have you checked to make sure the red ignition wire going to the msd box is getting at least 12 volts when the engine is trying to crank.

Also, make sure for some odd reason, the reluctor wheel didn't come off.

If the box works on your friends car, then does his box work on yours? Are you swapping out just the box or the whole harness too?

Not sure if this is it but back in the early days it wasn't uncommon to find a box that was incompatible with specific cranks, usually aftermarket cranks. With no crank signal the thing isn't going to fire.

Give MSD a call and have them see if they can come up with a meaningful test. They might end up having you send the box in. Sometimes they can fix it with a reflash.

thanks for all the replys

yep put all new sensors in and tried the ones off a mates car only thing I can think off if even possible is im using a hi torque LHS starter motor is it possible it could be dropping the voltage when im trying to start it? I have a relay on it as well the motor is standard with a cam and was running when pulled out of another car???

Checked ground wiring is all good on your car? And the ground for the MSD unit itself?

which box are you running? is your cam position sensor on the timing cover, or on the side of the block? which cam are you running? just trying to make sure you're getting the right signal.

it has be somewhere in the cam/crank sensors or the incorrect cam gear depending on which year motor you're working with.

It's an 02 ls1 cam sensor is at the back of the block on top motor had the same cam in it when it was running in another car nothing has been changed.

I'm to scared to try my mates box in my car in case I damage it
