Default Cam question for 5.3

Dropping a 5.3 in my c10. Running a carb. I'm not looking to race the truck or anything basically a hot rod around town and a few shows. I want the cam to lope and have a rough idle. I just want it to sound bad *** doesn't have to be fast. I'm going to be running a th400 tranny. Which cam would fit my needs best, with out have to do much except pushrods and springs at the most

I'll probably get shot for this, but the "Thumpr" (that is not misspelled) is designed for just that. There are three for LS motors. They are specifically designed to have choppy/thumping idles and sound good without requiring big springs. From the specs it looks like you could get away with LS6/blue/yellow springs which are quite cheap. Other cams can make more power but these cams are specifically designed to give a nice sound. Look up "thumpr ls1" on Youtube or check Comp Cams' website.

Also, search the classifieds. There is a guy selling the thumpr cam for $340 new with a set of blue springs. Sounds pretty motivated.

Cam threads generally belong in Internal Engine forums, but since you're carbed, you'll get the best action and advice here. In fact, the sticky and a couple of active threads will be of direct relevance to you.

The small edelbrock 2215 will have sound and bring in power with little to no converter needed. It gets my vote.

I thought the same thing when I saw this thread. Perfect match.

Oh well good try. Got some other suggestions. The "hot cam" also sounds good and if GM makes it you can expect lots of trouble-free service from it.

Guys is that a straight drop-in or LS6-ish springs?
