Default Spark plug heat range

Currently running autolite 106 plugs. The car runs great, but I cant seem to get any color in the plugs at all. I have added 2 jets in the front and 4 in the rear and still no color. It makes me wonder if the plug is just to hot.

When I look up the cross reference for a 106 autolite, it crosses to a tr5, tr55, AND a tr6. Yeah......it dosent make any sense to me either. So im thinking that I might throw some autolite 103 plugs in there and see if it gets me some color. Any thoughts? Eric L

If in the Camaro, I'd try the TR5 or 55's. Only difference between the two is the gap size out of the box. I don't care for Autolite plugs because the car just never ran as well when we tried 'em. There's nothing in your sig to indicate that the TR5 might be too hot, but if it turns out to be, then TR6.

Im sorry, I didn't specify. Its for the Valiant in my sig. Ive tried a tr55 and it seemed to lean foul. But a half of season of street driving fouled a set of tr6. That's when I had a set of autolite 106 sitting around and threw them in. The car runs GREAT, but holy cow are the porcelins white.

And when I look up a 106 on a cross reference chart, it crosses to a tr5, tr55, AND a TR6, lol. Eric L

I have run 103's for 3 years and they are perfect for my 10.75 compression N/A set-up. They were also perfect for my stock 9.6 compression LY6 with a 150 shot.

SWEET, that's kinda what I was looking for. Confirming that my 106s are to hot. They didn't seem to cold for street driving/NA? Thanks, Eric L

I have never fouled one. I used them on and off the shot on the Dakota as there was no difference in timeslips with the stock plugs It was driven regularly during decent weather.

I look at spark plugs like this: They need to be hot enough to keep themselves clean and cool enough to not overheat or become a glow plug. So, if a plug appears to be doing both of those things, I call it good.

I am 10.88:1 with a small cam, so my car makes some pretty good cylinder pressure. I can run TR5s just fine, but the electrode shows a little too much heat. So, I run TR6s and they look perfect. If I am going to be running nitrous, I just leave the BR7s in there. The BR7s do fine for daily use, but they do not stay as clean as the TR6s.

I don't know if its much help but when I put the tr55 in my cam/intake ls1 it seems to not run right but its runs great with tr6 plugs in it.. I was still fighting to get color on the plug so I up'd the jets in my holley 750 hp carb 7 sizes up front and 9 sizes in the rear from factory jetting and it just barely started showing color so maybe it wants more jet?

Oops, thought it was the Camaro. I don't know crap about an LY6; so, I'll just step aside & learn from those who do. Good luck w/ the plugs.

I have the stock ACDelco projected tips in mine and think they're on the hot side also...but they show color.
Just put in some BR7's for the future ...no run time yet, so can't speak for them.

I picked up some 103s on the way to work today. I am going to try and get some color with those and jet from there. Iirc my current jetting is 76/88 with a 4.5 PV.
