Spoke with my machinist today and paid off the final sum. Engine should be back at my mates workshop today. Then we just need to throw in the cam, put my valvetrain components into the heads, put the heads on the block and fit the sump and finally the manifold. Sets me up for next year where I can finally bother sussing out a carb for my combo.

Machinist was happy with my rotating assembly and with some quizzing the engine will probably be limited to 7,200rpm, has 10.7:1 comp and should happily handle the 200shot I have laying around that I intend to throw up on it.

That's all for this side of the planet from me atm.

I'm really glad I was able to grow up during those times. It was such a more simpler time. People were real. What you saw was what you got. A mans word meant everything. Your neighbors were like family. No one hardly ever got divorced. Every family sat down at the table and ate together. Children actually played outside. Man did I miss anything. Lol

Some upgrades for the Lark:

UMI had a killer sale. I got the lower control arms for $135. Also, Pontiac Steve on E-bay had free shipping on the T/A cover. Happy day.

Very nice. Hey did you ever get back to the track and spray that bad boy? And if you did. How did you do?

How do you feel about poly bushings and free movement of the rear end. Im torn between them and roto-joints. Im probably just over thinking it.

I over-thought it quite a bit myself. I was contemplating going to the Roto-Joint style deal for a long time, then I talked to the guys from UMI at the PRI show. They said they do not recommend the Roto-Joint for drag racing. Especially at higher power levels. They said the Roto-Joint stuff is for road course and precision handling scenarios. For drag racing they recommended their Teflon lined spherical rod ends.

So, then I started thinking about maybe some of their combo deals that have urethane where the control arm connects to the body and rod ends where the control arm connects to the rear end. I almost went that way.

In the end, I revisited what I do with the car 99% of the time which is cruise around on the street. I really did not want to make my nice street car into a rattle trap wanna-be race car. So, I just bought the urethane bushing control arms.

The noise factor has been a big thing for me. I put ALOT of miles on my car and it has a bench seat lol. Its a comfortable cruiser and I refuse to sacrifice that. I refuse to put rod ends in it on the street for several reasons. I have been over this so many times in my head that I think I have actually settled on boxing my stockers with good rubber bushings to retain some flex, its just so hard to resist the thought of nice shiny new parts.

Did the UMI guys elaborate on the subject of roto joints not being optimal for drag racing? Maybe they don't take well to high shock loads?

S10 is back on the road with a 2 piece DS. Need to replace the crush sleeve(hope that's all it is) in the rear. The last one piece blowing apart at 100 MPH did a number.

The crush sleave's only job is to keep tension on the pinion nut. Once installed it would be impossible to damage it.

The violent slapping of the partial drive shaft crushed in and cracked the flange that bolts on to the pinion flange. So it's the crush sleeve and or bearing at this point.
