Default swapped from a 10" to an 8" torque converter

I did this some time ago, but just haven't had time to go into detail on here. Converter specs

Old
10" transmission specialties high stall 10"
approx. 6% slip
approx. 4200 stall

new
8" coan from my old big block setup
approx. 6% slip
approx. 4200 stall

The old converter ran a best ET of 10.98 @ 122 in 650 ft DA

The new converter ran a best ET of 10.92 @ 124 in 1800 ft DA

The 8" converter is a TIGHT 8". You can feel the difference in the shifts for sure. It works better than the 10" did, but it still needs about 1300 more RPM of stall to be in the sweet spot. Eric L

Interesting. Hope to see some good results today, but going from a th400 to a 4L80 and a cheap Revmax to a 1200$ billet circle D. Old was a 4500 and tight, new is a loose 4400.

Sold my old 26" tires so the car will not get a real back to back comparrison. Have some 28s now.

What size was the revmax? I have a feeling that most of my gain came from the weight savings between the 10" and 8" more than anything else. I came out with the results I figured I would. In good air im pretty confident that the car has 10.70-.80s in it. Eric L

And good luck tonight. Im interested to see the results. What was the best with the old setup? Best of luck. Eric L

Thanks for sharing that Eric. That is a very substantial improvement when you take the D/A into account.

Just for giggles, here are the numbers from my little turbo truck (GN powered S-10)

12" 3000 stall restalled stock convertor: 0-60 = 2.39, 1/4 = 13.39 @ 109
9.5" 3400 stall Precision Vigilante converter: 0-60 = 1.74, 1/4 = 12.17 @ 115

Shows what a nice converter is capable of giving...
