Default Another LQ4 cam question

Hey, I got my hands on an Lq4 that's all stock, and just needs a light rebuild. It didn't come with fuel injection, so I'm going carb'd because it's cheaper and easier for me. My question is what cam do you guys recommend? I plan on supercharging it down the road, probably no more than 8 lbs of boost until I can upgrade to forged internals. I'm trying to find a camshaft that has good street manners, but more power mid range and up high. From what I understand, alot of N/A cams will work well with a supercharger as long as my lsa is 113-115 so it doesn't bleed off boost. I'm thinking of .550 lift+, and upgraded valve springs as well. Also, engine will have headers, full exhaust, and a 650 cfm carb.

I'm shooting for 430-500 hp.

Thanks for any advice!!

Thanks for the responses! I am planning on running a procharger eventually, not sure which one though. Maybe the D-1SC. Boost levels will definitely stay very conservative until I can afford to get forged internals.

Any other input? Comp cams gave me a recommendation for their 54-477-11 cam. Has anyone else run this?

Duration at .050 lift: 227 int./243 exh.
valve lift: .624 int/.624 exh
LSA: 114

That looks like a pretty typical supercharger grind. As long as that is what your primary focus is, then it will probably be fine.

Before you install the supercharger I would not expect that cam, in your stock LQ4, to make much more than 400 RWHP depending on whether you have a manual or automatic transmission and depending on how high of a stall converter you have in the trans.

So, You kind of have to lower your expectations of performance for your n/a if you are going to run a supercharger grind. Because, while that came may run good in an engine equipped with a long runner, plastic, EFI style intake manifold, it is not optimal for n/a in the single plane carbureted manifold that you will likely use with your supercharger setup.

Also, for n/a, your combo will want a 750 cfm carburetor. I recommend the Quick Fuel q-series for serious performance or street strip duty.

ok, I can afford to sacrifice some power now and make a lot more down the road. I appreciate the input!! Will definitely look for that carb!

That cam would work great with nitrous I'm my opinion. Carbed LS motors responds well to a lot more duration on the exhaust side than the intake side. What heads is you looking into ?

For now I will use the factory heads, but eventually I do plan on going to aftermarket heads.
