Default single exhaust sizing

Currently I have 2.5" true duals through an x-pipe dumped at the axle with hooker aerochambers. It sounds good but its a little noisy in the car. I have been thinking of running a single pipe out the back in the stock location to mellow it out and clean it up a little.

Do you think 3.5" would be large enough? It should suffice as im probably only making around 400hp. My concern is in the future, how much power will a good mandrel bent 3.5" support if/when I upgrade in the future? I don't think I want to stuff a 4" under the car/over the axle.

I think you would be fine. Seen plenty of 450 RWHP camaros and firebirds with single 3".
