80 Malibu LS1 Carb Swap
Hello,
I am sure I am asking a question that has been asked many times but I am about to start my LS1 swap in a 1980 Malibu. I have a 2000 Z28 donor car I am pulling the engine and I am going to switch the car over to a carb. This is going to be a street/strip car, not a dedicated track car. I am wanting to spray around a 150 on it, going with a TH400 trans. With several different intakes and a tons of different carbs I am trying to figure out what would be the best setup. I'm not saying I have a unlimited budget but I have a decent amount of money to throw at the car. Any help would be great appreciated.

I have a 79 malibu that I'm in the process of ls swapping. Mine is an Lq9 and I plan to go with a edelbrock performer rpm. Dual plane because I plan to drive the car a lot on the street. As far as carb I'm going with a Holley 750 hp.

Change the CAM for sure a 224 or better... you can stay with stock heads... add at least a 3000 stall for that th400.. decent gear 3.08 or better and you should run lows 12s with a good tire. with just manifolds and 2.5 exhaust. I did it...
You can run the basic Edelbrock dual plane and box setup from Jegs or summit. Holley blue electric pump. That should be just over a grand in parts.
Have fun!!

Any swap meet Holley will work. You will want a 750 cfm at a minimum. If buying new hard to beat the Quick Fuels or Holley HP's. Nice carbs, tune up well on an LS and can get them in pretty packages with anodized parts.
Pro systems will build you a carb, but in all honesty you can do as well on your own.
You can't pick an intake until you decide what cam you want. In order to pick a cam you need to decide how hard you want to drive this thing. With a non-overdrive trans you will be turning some RPM. Between that and the nitrous you might be better served with a bigger cam and single plane intake.
You didn't mention what rear gear you plan on running. My guess you will want to go vacuum secondary but even that could change if you gear and cam it for more strip than street.
This is the fun part, figuring out where you want to go with the car.
