Advice on improvements lq4 mustang
I'm at a stand still and needing advice on tuning/timing for 1/8 mile drag racing.
Its a budget build 88 foxbody coupe with a lq4, cnc'd 243s , 750 proform, MS3 cam, TH400 with a brake, 4000 nitrous converter, 4.10 gears! I've tried total advance between 28* - 36* with no significant changes in 60' and ETs. It runs consistent mid 7.20s to 7.30s and maybe thats all that it has in it!
Thanks for any advice in advance

Its about 3410 with the driver! Cam specs are 237/242 @ .050, .603/.609, 111 lsa. Slicks are MT 28x9, the compression is ~10.5:1, 1 3/4 long tubes with 3'' exhaust dumped before the rear axle. Most of the time when I'm running the temps are in the high 70s mid 80s with an elevation of 550'.

What is the 60 foot? My phone won't read the attachment.
I do suggest a 26x10 for the 1/8 mile. That may met a .1 pretty easily.
Depending on DA where you are running, I think you should have some 7.0s or better in that combination. My 89 RS was running 7.1s all day at 3450 lbs, stock LQ4 with a Trex cam, but was a 6 speed with 4.30a. Did dip to a 7.0 before. MPH was always 96 and then 97 on the 7.0 pass.

Thinking a shorter tire as said above should help off set the rear gear and help the 60'.
More stall may also help the 60'
But quickest/easiest way....giggle gas.

If this is a street car you can put a 2.75 gear set in the transmission. This would lower your overall first gear to equal almost what you would have if you put in 4.56 rear gear. This along with shorter tires, as stated above, would help even more. If this is a strip only car install a 4.88 or a 5.13 gear depending on how high you turn your engine.

I do have a set of 4.56s to go in but are probably to steep with the 2.48 first gear if i wanted to try nitrous. I usually shift around 6800 rpm.

The combo of relatively low compression, late intake valve close and a nitrous stall converter is not the best for a naturally aspirated car. But, once you turn the nitrous on, it will fix all those problems.

Your car is particularly heavy for a fox at #3400+. The camshaft you have was designed for factory style long runner intake manifolds, so it will be pretty high strung in a car with a single plane carburetor intake. Which intake do you have?

what is the suspension setup? The slick you are using are they the stiff side wall slick? if you aren't going to use the spray I would say go to a 4.88 0r 5.13 with a mt pro bracket radial for 1/8th mile.

I have 90/10 and 50/50 non adjusting shocks with stock V8 springs. I also have an anti-roll bar installed! My slicks are a not stiff wall however my fastest ET was on a 255/60-15 mt et street slick!

That should work pretty good may pick up some with adjustable shocks but can say how much I dropped from 1.50-1.43 going to adjustable rears and tightening up my front shocks. Also the heavier cars seem to like the stiff sidewall slick or a radial tire.
