Default New engine for Valiant, collecting parts

I didn't plan on building an new engine anytime soon. We pulled the current stock bottom end LY6 apart this summer and the bearings were beautiful. Perfect. But..............**** started rolling in. And who am I to argue?

My original plan was to put aftermarket rods and pistons in. A little more compression, and some spray. So, me and a buddy found this short block with dished pistons (for his turbo build) and K1 rods. He has a set of callies rods, so he sold me the K1 rods for $300. Sweet.

Than, I had another friend who had a set of SRP piston up for sale. Part number 271102. 10cc dish. With my 64 cc heads it should give me around 10.9-1 comp. We did some horse trading and I ended up getting the pistons for FREE. BUT, theres a catch. The pistons are for a 408.

Now that im building a 408, lol, all I need to find is a crank. Im currently trolling for one. I figure if I can find a used 10/10 crank or something for around $400-$450, its worth the risk. If not, ill just wait and buy a new one. I figure ive saved enough on the rest of the rotator to warrant it.

Heres my plan.........im not saying its a good one, but its an expierment.

I want to build the 10.9-1 ish 408 with my stock LS3 heads. I should probably do a valve job since im still running the factory valve job with a lap job. I also want to see what this engine would do with the crane 232/236 cam im currently running.

My theory is that it will give me massive bottom end torque, stall the converter higher, be GREAT on the street, and MAYBE run a 10.20?

I figure since I have it I may as well try it in the name of science. If it dosent work than I will throw my Rapid Motorsports 237/248 back in installed on a 110 rather than the 106 I had it at.

Ideas? Opinions? Thoughts?

Thanks, Eric L

Man, hate it when that happens. Sounds like it is just meant to be.

That was how I saw it. It must be destiny. Lol. The wife usually sees it differently. Lol. But she talks all that nonsense like "logic", and "common sense" and stuff. Lol

LOL, I hear ya. But this one is going to be a couple years of collecting parts. But I figure I already have a good jump on it. Im still wringing what I can out of the current combo. Albeit slowly, lol. Eric L

What started out as a decent set of Pistons and some spray, well……has appeared to snowball. This will be more fun on the street with the extra torque. Hey Steve. How high do I dare go on compression with 93 pump swill? It should be 10.9-1. Do I dare deck the block and shoot for 11.5? Thanks. Eric L

Oh yeah. Piston pics. Lol. SRP 10cc dish. Should be around 10.9-1 at zero deck with my 63-64 cc heads. Pistons might have 50 passes on them. Eric L

Mine is 11.5:1 and pump is never a problem. With a decent sized camshaft, I would not be afraid of 11.75:1

Thank you for the responses guys. That's good to know. I was a little worried about running into detonation on motor. What fuel are people using on the bottle. C116?

Have a look at X16. It is cheaper than C16 and does a nice job.
