My buddy just bought an 86 z28 it has the 700r4 with 2.73 gears and a 350 and holley 650.

I was wondering if a 2000 year rear axle will fit his year, and if the aluminum ls1 driveshaft will fit as well.

I was going to look for a ls1 6 speed 3.42 gear rear end for him if it fits.

with the rear end its abit wider than the 3rd gen rear but most people just buy 4th gen wheels and dont uses spacers then (its i think 2inches wider on both sides.)

yea ive had 3 third gens, its gana be 2 inches wider on each side, i wouldnt do it, i have a 91 RS drag roller 4 sale and all my parts for a third gen go with it, if your interested or anybody you know is, let me know, thanks

Well, I have 6 third gens...and...J/K

The brake cables for the Ebrake are different if you decide to use the rear axle. Other than that, you will need the single rear brake line also, the dual is not going to work as you could figure.

Drive shaft will fit just fine although I am not sure if the splines on the yoke at trans will. I swapped in a T56 but kept a 3rd gen rear axle.
