Default 2001 camaro cam swap. Please help

i have a 2001 camaro ls1 m6. i have not done much to my car but simple bolt ons such as lid, and long tubes. i am planning to do a cam swap and i am trying to decide what cam to use. i want my car to make good power but i want it to be very driveable as well. my buddy wants me to swap in a magic stick 3 or 4. he said the ms4 is a better cam power but im not sureif it would negatively affect driveability. if anyone has used these cams or has any imput for me i would appreciate any help

I'm using a ms4......obviously it isn't much on drivability, but as far as power...it is amazing, the sound isn't to bad either

Ms4 cam is a powerhouse. No doubt about it. Drivability however, is probably not exactly what your looking for considering you want it to be very drivable. I drive around with a 233/239 cam witch isnt as big, but still pretty big on the whole scale of cam's and I can tell you that you can easily deal with it. I would say the Ms3 is probably a better choice as you can run a 112 or 113 lsa if you want, and its a bit smaller than the MS4, and makes near the same horsepower.

+1 ms4 offers great power but idk if you could call a meaty cam "very drivable", I was looking into an ms4 too for the summer but now am leaning towards a 233/239ish tsp or 224/224.

Im going with a 228, they have great power all around the powerband, not just up top and from what I hear its very driveable.

Great cam if you are going to track the car a lot. For a Daily driver look at something like a TR224 or the Tony Mamo cam 224/228. Both are great daily driver cams that will give you a big hp bump.

Also, best advice I can give you is to talk to the person who will tune your car. Give them your goals and what you can live with for driveability. They will know what they can accomplish with the cam choices available. Driveability has a lot to do with the tune.

I have had a 233/233 cam in my D/D for the past few years. I love it.

Drive ability with the MS3 and MS4 cams I think comes down to how good the tune is. I just had a MS3 with 112 LSA installed in my M6 01 SS with stock 3.42's and had it dyno tuned. The car drives similar to the stock cam until about 4k then it pulls like a bat out of hell. I have been DDing my car since I got it back 2 weeks ago and havent had a single problem. It surges a little around 1500rpms, but the surging goes away if your cruising at 1900-2000 rpms....

honestly, I was worried about drive ability with stock gears until I picked it up and drove it home and I couldnt believe how well it drove.

There are a lot of guys running the MS4 that say the same things about them Kidcamaro98 does. This goes a long way toward credibility and predictability in your application. The guys I've went around with here that backed this cam (and you KNOW there is a lot of controversy) say that it is at its best in a 6speed car. Also that with a professional tuning dedicated to the cam and application (not a Diablosport or mail order tune) it is very daily drivable.
My only issue in your install might be that your stock heads may be a limiting factor to the cam's effectiveness.
+1 on the MS4

honestly, the difference between the 3 and 4 is so minimal both cam's are great.
