Default How much will this cost?

I was reading up on the LS1 F-Body and it seems that the major component that is a weak link to the car is the 10 bolt rear end. I've heard that it can blow on stock power, with no abuse or it can hold up through modded racing.

If a stock 10 bolt goes to hell, how much will it cost to fix it? How much will parts cost? How much would it cost to fix it in labor and is it a tough fix or something easy?

Is there any preventive measures that can assure you won't have any problems or that will drastically minimize the chance of it?

What is the permanent fix? A built rear end which is about $2,500 bucks?

10 bolts are cheap used. If you blow one, pick up another locally for $100-$200. Takes a few hours to change one out.

Mine is holding strong with 432rwhp/403rwtq & 11 sec 1/4 mile times. Shitty 60's though.

Broke an axel on my 98 stock power V6.

^^^ he's right. IMO once you break it you're better off just replacing the whole thing. only takes a few hours to swap em out and they're cheap. best off just keeping the stock gears in there and hoping for the best. if you're auto you have nothing to worry about though.

If you're an auto, I would get a stock 10 bolt out of an M6 car. 3.42 gears would be a great step up.

So the autos don't have problems with the stock ten bolt crapping out?

not nearly as bad, they're much much easier on it. even with a decent stall and drag radials it should be okay as long as you're not spraying out of the hole or making insane amounts of power. wheel hop is a killer too. autos don't put near the same amount of stress on it that m6's do though.

ive never had a problem with wheel hop and i dont baby my car very often. my 10 bolt is holding up just fine with 58000 miles on it. only problem ive had is the cover has a few small stress cracks from the idiot before me tightening it down to much. a stock 10 bolt is pretty cheap theirs alway some in the local junkyards
