Default Faulty High Speed Operation

1995 Chevy Camaro – 3.4 L, Automatic

The car idles fine but misses very badly when the RPMs exceed 2500. It dies above 3,000 RPMs. This problem started all of the sudden. No work recently preceded the problem. I have changed the spark plugs and treated it with head gasket seal. Neither of these helped. Below are more details:
  • Car starts fine.
  • Car idles fine.
  • If I rev the car above 2,500 RPM, it misses and RPM drops to zero. If I let up on gas, the car might drop back to idle or dies.
  • If I rev the car up to 3,000, it dies.
  • After car dies, it is hard to start or won't start at all. Starts fine after 5-10 minutes.
  • If I put the car in gear while it is idling, it drives fine on idle. Above 1,500 RPM, it misses bad or dies while driving.

I would appreciate any advise.
