I have a 2000 SS Camaro and i was just wondering for future reference how much hp/tq these cars can handle before they would need a roll cage. It is a street car but might be an occasional strip car. I plan on building a motor for it one day when i have money and im not a big fan of having a roll cage in a primarily street car. I wouldnt care to have a strut tower bar and subframe connectors but i would like to stay away from a roll cage. I just dont want it to hook one day and tweak the chassis so if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A cage is more dependent on what you'll use it for.

A Miata needs a cage and it only has 120-ish HP.

I'll be making 600+hp but will only require a 4pt cage because it's a 50/50 street/road race car.

My plan is eventually to have about 450-500. I dont want a roll cage but i dont want to take an occasional trip to the track in a street driven car and the tires hook hard once and have the chassis twist.

450-500 hp isn't really going to "twist" your frame.

I have a cage due to safety.

@ 11.49 you need a 6 point (good down to 10.0)
In a convertable...I think it's @ 11.99

Per the NHRA rules

thank you. im not too worried about nhra rules cuz it will be primarily a street car. i just dont want to mess any thing up, but im not against subframe connectors just roll cages cuz it ruins the look of a street car IMO......thanks for all the replies

If you don't want to cage her, just make sure you don't clock under 11.50 @ the track unless you want to park it for the night. Otherwise SFCs should keep you from twisting the car up.
