Default URGENT ADVICE NEEDED: Would you buy this camaro?

hey guys im new to the forum world and had a quick question..

i have less then a week to decide on a purchase and was wondering if im getting a good deal or not. its a 1996 v6 3.8 camaro t-top with roughly 131k mile. it has borla dual exhaust black on black(cloth seats) it is 2nd owner car and seems it pretty good shape(at least from the pics and what ive been told) but heres the thing.. the owner just turned 22 and has had it through high school and college for past 4-5 years. my question is would you travel 100 miles to buy this camaro for $3200? Is it a reasonable deal or am i being trigger happy. would you let the teenager thing be deal breaker for you even tho is female? what would you suggest?

kelly blue book is telling me the car is worth $3700 in good condition but edmunds is telling me like $1700
WTF why are these two numbers so far apart.
her asking price was 3700 and said 3200 is final

im so confused what should i do?

she says the car is in great condition(wash once a week) reliable, and has never been into an accident or given here any problems.also did the carfax and its verified. only thing she mentioned was the engine was burning little oil and she puts little in between oil changes

whhat would you do if you had to make this decision?

please chime in and enlighten me. i have less then a week to act or deal is dead. any advise would be GREATLY appreciated
thanks in advance

signed,
the new guy

I would hold off for a better deal man. $3200 is too much for a 96' 6 cylinder with that many miles.

My buddy just bought a 00' LS1 w/ 110k miles for $4200..

why that body style and motor? you could do better for $3200... You should be able to find an LT1 6speed for that price and same mileage. I wouldnt pay that much for an old v6 but thats just me.

I just sold my 96 3.8 for about that price. It had 142k and ran like a champ. So I'd say it could be a reasonable deal. Teen owner isn't always a bad thing. I got my 96 when I was 16 and drove it right up until I got my Z28 this summer. I took immaculate care of it; better than most adult owners.

Now you could probably find a Z28 in that same price range. All depends what you want. Z28 will be more fun, but the 3.8 is still quick with good gas mileage.

I'd say if it's what you want, go look at it, check it out thoroughly, and get a feel for the owner. If you like it, there's nothing wrong, and she seems honest and caring for the car, then go for it.

not that it really matters but the 3.8 was the standard v6 in 96.. It was an option in 95 ..

You're wrong . 1996 was the first year for the 3800 series II 3.8L; 200hp and 29mpg hwy. Also, I believe some late 95 cars shipped to California got the 3.8.

more more im getting mixed signals so far.

call me crazy but i like the 92-97 body better, looks meaner. as far as the engine-to be honest i could care less as long as its a reliable car, good on gas and gets me to work on time. 6 speed? ill pass thanks. price wise- is it really that bad considering i could always sell it later on if anything ?

wheres this? around my neck of the woods -LS1's at 100k 5gs or more( and most of them are raced or beat to ****

I would consider looking for something else, 96 V6 131kmiles seems to be overpriced. Try talking them down on price, get a Carfax, and buy what you like. Goodluck. Example my brother has a 2000 model v6 camaro has around 80k miles sold it for 5000. Never wrecked/damaged or anything.

My buddy that bought his for $4200 lives in Pittsburgh, PA like I do. Deals can be found all the time. I'm not sure where you are located..but even on the boards here you can pick up a V8 with 100k for a very fair price. $3200 for the car you asked about is too much. Around $2500 would be what I would pay.

if you're looking for something that gets good gas mileage and is reliable, the 3800 V6 is a great engine. $3200 is more than i would be willing to pay for that vehicle. patience will find you something newer with lower miles in the same price range, and save you from the buyers remorse later. one of my friends back home swears by the 3.4l V6, he has 2 Luminas that are over 180K and still have the factory plugs in them.....

while not my "cup of tea", a V6 can still be fun/economical.

I'd also not buy that car. Of course, I'd not be looking at a V6 Camaro in the first place. Either way, I think it's too much money unless it's super mint.

whats the big difference between the z28 vs rs? specs, maintenance cost, reliability, problems, mileage etc..? this is for a daily driver and im kinda tight with money this month. also how much would it cost to buy and install a borla dual exhaust if i decided to buy a base model?

Not a chance. For the same price you could find a z28.

Have you checked out craigslist in your area?

Around here 93-98 v6's go for 2k all day and in good shape and half of them are modded.

Paying twice the price for half the car.
