Default 1969 Camaro Black plates... Need some advice

Hey everyone,

I've been trying to get these black plates register to my 69 Camaro but have no luck (California). The plates are not registered to any vehicle, they are not restored and they have "69" stamped on them.

DMV just sent me back response letter stating: "There is no sticker or tab on the plate and the base year of the plate does not match the model year (Year of Manufacture) of your vehicle"

The person also hand written notes: "1963 base w/1969 sticker required"

Do you guys have any suggestions on what I should do next to maybe get this pushed through? Or am I **** out of luck?

Love to hear some ideas folks..

Thanks!

John

Go to a AAA instead of the DMV. Or try a different DMV. It really depends on the day and the person. I got my "QISMY SS" plate at the AAA, even though they (the clerk and his boss who had to sign off on them) said that there was no was that Sacramento would sign off.

The branch manager of the AAA needed to sign off as a first level of defense, and told me that Sacto probably wouldn't. Well, sure as ****, Sacto did and my plates arrived 8 weeks later.

PS... worst case scenario, go on ebay and buy an original '69 sticker. Then your plates "will be" legit.

I've been hearing about going to AAA DMV vs. DMV. I think I am finally going to give in and start going to one.

You will not be able to register that plate. A 1963-1969 black plate has a 63 stamped in a larger and different font and not a 69 stamp (which is what they mean by 63 base).

DMV will only register the 63 plates. In fact, I have never seen one with a 69 stamp....

Here is a closeup of a plate... Notice the 63 stamp http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars...cars-2#slide-2

Just an FYI before you go wait in the long DMV line.....

If thats true, then it looks like I got some reproduction black plates. Dammit.. I just ordered the 69 tags from ebay too!

Well, since the 69 tags are coming in, I guess I can stick them on and give it another shot.. AAA DMV doesnt seem to have long lines, I can also make an appointment prior.

Hey thanks for your help though John!
btw, if youre the same John510 with "bloodline", super sick car! Im subscribed to your thread on PT.

Looking forward to running into the Bay Area PT guys this year!
